Billie Jane “Janie” Haas, 92, of Columbus, passed away Friday March 1, 2019 in Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at 8:08 p.m. She was born February 20, 1927 in Belleville, Illinois to the late William Chapple Chandler and Hattie Mae Henderson Chandler.
Janie married Archie A. Haas August 25, 1949 and he preceded her in death in 1973. She was a member of the Columbus Baptist Church. She loved sewing and was known for her sewing abilities.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday March 6, 2019 in Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral home with the Rev. Chuck Kennedy officiating. Following the service, she will be laid to rest next to Archie in the Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana for the Children’s Play Room.
Janie leaves behind a son, Ken Haas of Columbus; 2 daughters, Jodi and her husband John Wright and Jan and her companion Randy Denney; a brother, Jack and his wife Flo Chandler of WA; grandchildren, Brian and his companion Carissa McDaniel Wright, Chris and his wife Courtney Moore, Jayna and her husband Danny Wheeler, Julie and her husband Brandon Rotert, Andrea and her husband Shaun Haas-Aguirre; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and a grand dog Hazel.
Janie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Archie; brothers, Sid, Roger and Joe Chandler and a great-great grandson Carter Thomas Back.
