MALE

Trey Johnson, Hauser junior basketball player

Johnson recorded 31 points and 11 rebounds in a 68-48 win over Waldron, six points in a 38-37 OT win over Oldenburg Academy and 15 points and 10 rebounds in a 71-57 loss to Morristown in the Southwestern (Shelby) Sectional.

His performance last week: “I felt pretty good coming into the game, and my teammates did a great job of getting me the ball when I was in position to score.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I put my earbuds in and get that playlist going and kind of just stretch out andget my mind right.”

Favorite drink: “Dr. Pepper”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “Harry Potter”

Favorite class: “Advanced PE. I like to lift.”

Role model: “My dad (Hauser JV coach Doug Johnson). He’s a public figure in the community, and I look up to him.”

Best advice: “Reach for the stars, and if you have big goals, there’s no reason why you can’t get them.”

Athletics goal: “I want to play Division I baseball.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Somewhere down south like the Dominican (Republic) just because I’ve been there before, and I like the culture and the weather. It’s warm, and it’s always nice there.”

FEMALE

Taylen Lane, Columbus East sophomore gymnast

Lane finished seventh on the beam and eighth on the vault and tied for ninth on the floor Friday to help the Olympians to a third-place finish in the Columbus East Regional.

Her performance last week: “I think I did a lot better at regional than in sectional because I got to compete in floor, but could have done better. I did good enough to contribute to help the team go to state.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Usually, I’ll just listen to some music.”

Favorite drink: “Lemonade”

Favorite food: “Pizza”

Favorite book: “Harry Potter”

Favorite class: “Sports Nutrition”

Role model: “My mom (Tonnie Lane)”

Best advice: “Don’t practice until you get it right; practice until you can’t get it wrong.”

Athletics goal: “Have a strong showing at state.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Paris because I’d like to see the Eiffel Tower.”
