East sweeps Highlanders

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East ran its record to 6-0 with a doubleheader sweep Saturday at Floyd Central.

Cole Gilley and Daniel Murphy combined on a three-hitter in a 10-3 win in the opener. Gilley struck out 11 in six innings.

Julian Greenwell went 3 for 5 to lead the Olympians’ 13-hit attack. Gilley went 2 for 4, Jonah Wichman went 2 for 5 with two RBIs and Dalton Back and T.J. Barkhimer each had two RBIs.

Kaden Wise threw a complete-game six-hitter and struck out seven in the second game. Barkhimer had two RBIs.

Bull Dogs win pair

Columbus North picked up a pair of wins on the final day of the Super Prep Tournament in the Greater Louisville area.

The Bull Dogs edged Louisville Christian Academy 2-1. Kyler McIntosh allowed only one hit over the final five innings in relief of starter Zach Wager. Homare Takauchi went 2 for 4 with a double to knock in McIntosh, who had led off the game with a triple

In the second game, North (5-1) won 10-2 at South Oldham. Parker Maddox and Konner Stahl combined on a three-hitter.

Adam Chapman went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Bull Dogs’ 13-hit attack. Trinkle went 2 for 4 with a triple, Blake Huffman went 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs and Takauchi had two RBIs.

Jets split games

HOPE — Hauser posted an 8-3 win against Trinity Lutheran before taking its first loss of the season, a 14-5 setback against Bishop Chatard.

Jackson Paradise and Kameron Lawson combined on a three-hitter for the Jets against Trinity (2-4). Hauser’s Will Trotter went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

Against Chatard, starting pitcher Aaron Mee and Kobe Meahl each went 2 for 3 for the Jets (3-1). Parker Eickbush had two RBIs.

Cadets sweep Panthers

NASHVILLE — Bryce Walker threw a two-hitter in the opening game of a doubleheader, but Brown County dropped the Western Indiana Conference contest 1-0 to Cascade.

The Cadets won the second game, a non-conference affair, 14-6. Isaac Weddle had a double in each game for the Eagles (2-4, 0-1).

Braves blank Lancers

GREENWOOD — Edinburgh fell to Indian Creek 23-0 in the semifinals of the Johnson County Tournament.

The Lancers fell to 0-5.

Olympians take ninth

FLOYDS KNOBS — Columbus East finished ninth with a 372 in the Floyd Central Invitational at Valley View.

Kody Reynolds led the Olympians with a 75. Adrian Adams added a 92, Cole Schaefer shot 100 and Leyton Erfmeier had a 105.

Cougars fifth, Eagles ninth

NASHVILLE — Trinity Lutheran finished fifth with a 355, and Brown County took ninth with a 387 in the Brown County Invitational at Salt Creek. Franklin won with a 306.

Jacob Keith led the Cougars with an 81. Mark Shoemaker and Josiah Foster each shot 90, Jacob Sabotin added a 94, and Ryland Nierman had a 96.

Parker VanNess tied for second individually with a 72 to lead the Eagles. Peyton Proctor carded a 102, Cooper VanNess added a 104, Curtis Lookebill shot 109 and Rex Watters had a 129.

Edinburgh’s lone player, Bladen Hancock, finished with a 77.

GIRLS Tennis

North wins 2 of 3

FLOYDS KNOBS — No. 12-ranked Columbus North went 2-1 against three ranked teams in the Floyd Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs beat No. 26 Gibson Southern 5-0, fell to No. 17 Evansville Memorial 3-2 and beat No. 5 Providence 3-2.

Eva Chevalier at No. 2 singles and Tiffany Fu at No. 3 singles both went 3-0 for the day, winning all three of their matches in straight sets. Ashlie Wilson went 1-2 at No. 1 singles.

Jaline Tay and Servane Cloteaux at No. 1 doubles and Shweta Srinivasan and Ali Bergman at No. 2 doubles each split their first two matches. Srinivasan and Tay fell at No. 1 doubles against Providence, while Bergman and Cloteaux won at No. 2 doubles to give the Bull Dogs (4-1) the match.

Jets claim BC invite

NASHVILLE — Hauser posted 3-2 wins against both Brown County and Edinburgh to claim the Brown County Invitational championship.

The Lancers edged the Eagles 3-2 in the opening match, which would determine second place. Edinburgh swept the singles spots, with Haley Jones beating Julia Williams 7-6 (5), 2-6, (10-8), Destiney Ramey dowing Meg Smith 6-4, 6-0 and Sophia Parmer topping Claire Dannelley 6-1, 6-0. Brown County’s Cassidy Davis and Olivia Baughman beat Haven Link and Annelise Lollar 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, and Hannah Asher and Grace Baughman downed Katie Roberts and Bethany Burton 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

In the second match, the Jets’ Abby Johnson beat Williams 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, Carly Archer and Maddy Archer downed Davis and Olivia Baughman 4-6, 6-2, (10-5) at No. 1 doubles and Aunaka Wasil and Brooke Hopkins topped Asher and Grace Baughman 6-2, 7-6 (5) at No. 2 doubles. The Eagles’ Smith beat Andie Clark 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, and Dannelley downed Gabby Johns 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

In the final and title-deciding match, Hauser’s Johnson beat Jones 6-4, 6-2, the Archers downed Link and Lollar 6-1, 6-2 and Wasil and Hopkins topped Roberts and Burton 6-4, 6-3. Edinburgh’s Ramey beat Clark 6-2, 6-4, and Parmer downed Johns 6-1, 6-1.

Eagles get no-hitter

CLAYTON — Emma Summers struck out 20 in 10 hitless innings to lead Brown County to a doubleheader sweep at Cascade.

Summers struck out 12 strikeouts and did not walk a batter in throwing her second career no-hitter in a 10-0, five-inning first-game win that counted as the WIC contest. She had a perfect game two years ago at Cascade.

Myka Snyder and Whitney Clark each went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs for the Eagles. Marley Nickels went 2 for 4.

In the second game, Allison Stogsdill allowed three runs and four hits and struck out five over the first four innings of a 9-3 victory. Summers struck out eight in three hitless innings.

Sara Fishel went 3 for 3 with three RBIs, Taylor Poling went 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Nickels went 2 for 4 with a double and Summers and Adri Kritzer each went 2 for 4. Aubrey Hollander had two RBIs.

Panthers go 2-1

PENDLETON — Jennings County bounced back from a 5-3 loss to Lake Central in its Horeshoe Classic opener to beat Madison-Grant 6-1 and Elwood 5-0 in a game that was stopped in the fifth inning because of darkness.

The Panthers led Lake Central 3-0 after four innings, but the Indians rallied for the win. Kylee Matern went 2 for 3.

Katie Mahoney went 2 for 3 with two home runs and three RBIs against Madison-Grant. Matern went 2 for 3.

Gabby Mahoney threw a two-hit shutout against Elwood. Lexi South and Carissa Sabelhaus each went 2 for 2.

South Decatur falls

VERSAILLES — South Decatur was tied with South Ripley at 7-7 after 3 1/2 innings, but the Raiders scored 10 times in their next three trips to the plate to pull away for a 17-7, six-inning victory.

Sam Goodfellow went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs for the Cougars (0-2). Lana Bell went 2 for 3, Sierra Lang had a two-run homer.

TRACK AND FIELD

Panthers take fifth

JEFFERSONVILLE — Jennings County’s boys and girls both finished fifth in Jeffersonville’s Red Devil Inferno. Floyd Central won the boys meet, and Warren Central took the girls title.

Kayla Truesdell won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet, 7 1/2 inches and finished second in the discus (122-7) to lead the Panther girls. Sam Sproles took second in the long jump (17-1), and Izzy Daugherty was second in the 300-meter hurdles (48.45 seconds).

Carter Leak led the Jennings boys with a second-place finish in the 3,200 (10:17.48) and a third in the 1,600 (4:40.48). The Panthers took second in the distance medley (11:19.87) and 4×800 (8:33.10) relays.
