Despite objections by nearby residents, the Columbus Plan Commission approved rezoning the site of the former Columbus Drive-in on State Road 11 for business use to allow development of commercial lots for warehouse-type operations.

In a continuing effort to ease overcrowding at Columbus High School until a second senior high school was completed, plans were announced for daily schedules to include nine class periods per day instead of eight, increasing the length of the school day from seven hours and 34 minutes to eight hours and 45 minutes.
