East girls roll past Madison

Columbus East girls track set some personal records and even set a school record Tuesday night.

Senior discus thrower Beyoncey Coleman-Turner broke the school record for the third time this season with a throw of 149 feet, 4 inches. She also won the shot put (34-3) to lead the Olympians to a 107-23 win against Madison on senior night.

Before the meet, East honored seniors Coleman-Turner, Isha Chavan, Yami Diaz, Taylor Gaskill, Liz Hagan, Maddy Ping, Amanda Pottorff and Olivia Williams.

"It’s been a nice group of eight, and seven of them have been with me for four years," East coach Glen Brown said. "They are going to be hard to replace. It’s always sad when you lose your seniors, but these group of seniors have stuck together. They’re very intelligent young girls, and I can’t wait to see what they do at the next level."

Elena Stoughton won the high jump (5-0), and Gabi Schuetz took the long jump (14-4). Other winners for East included Olivia Williams in the 100-meter hurdles (17.9 seconds), Sydney Wilson in the 100 (13.3), Olivia Linnemann in the 1,600 (5:45.3), Diaz in the 400 (1:05.7), Emily Stiles in the 300 hurdles (52.4), Maddy Ping in the 800 (2:45.2) and Amanda Pottorff in the 3,200 (13:32.6).

The 4×800 relay team of Linnemann, Diaz, Olivia Shoaf and Ping were victorious in 10:59.5. The 4×100 team of Williams, Liz Hagan, Schuetz and Wilson won in 53.4. The 4X400 relay team of Schuetz, Jordan Sims, Shoaf and Diaz triumphed in 4:40.4.

"Our 100 hurdlers are steadily improving. Olivia (Linnemann) and Jordan (Spurgeon) both with PR’s in the 1,600 — that was great," Brown said. "Emily in the 300 (hurdles) — those times just keep going down. Maddy Ping did an excellent job in the 800 for us. Again, Amanda, even though it was not her PR, she’s consistently under 13:30. Beyoncey with the school record is great. Our long jumpers are consistent. For our high jumpers, it was a little windy to go much higher than 5 feet, but they were pretty consistent."
