Athletes of the Week

Because of a Republic error, the answers to the Male and Female Athletes of the Week questions were transposed on Page B3 in Thursday’s Republic. Here is the correct version:

MALE

Preston Terrell, Columbus North sophomore track athlete

Terrell won the Conference Indiana title in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 4 inches and finished third in the long jump at 20-2 1/2 to lead the Bull Dogs to a third-place team finish.

His performance last week: “I was happy with my performance, but I feel like I could do better. It’s just going to take practice and everything to get to where I want to be.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “Anything the coaches give me to do — knee drive, the fundamental stuff — because the little things matter to get to where I want to be, to get to 6-6 (in the high jump).”

Favorite drink: “Blue Powerade”

Favorite food: “Steak”

Favorite book: “Alabama Moon”

Favorite class: “Psychology”

Role model: “Deion Sanders”

Best advice: “No matter how you work or how hard you train, you just have to accomplish your goals and do whatever you need to do to get to that.”

Athletics goal: “To play at the highest level I can in college football.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Hawaii, because every time people go there, they show me pictures and stuff of how cool is was, so I’d say that would be the place I’d want to go.”

FEMALE

Adrienne Salemme, Columbus North junior track athlete

Salemme won the Conference Indiana pole vault title with a personal-best clearance of 11 feet, 3 inches to lead the Bull Dogs to a third-place team finish.

Her performance last week: “I’m really excited about it, to get a (personal record).”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just go through my daily routine and keep everything the same to make sure that I get all the nutrition that I need.”

Favorite drink: “I just drink a lot of water.”

Favorite food: “Pasta”

Favorite book: “I like the fantasy, magical mystery kind of books.”

Favorite class: “Biomedical Science”

Role model: “Sandy Morris (an elite pole vaulter)”

Best advice: “Stick with it. You might not always have the best time, but it will get better.”

Athletics goal: “I would like to pole vault in college for a Division-I school.”

If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Greece, because I think it’s really cool.”
