Driver arrested after leading deputies on foot chase

Bartholomew County Sheriff deputies arrested a local man wanted on a warrant after he fled on foot after an attempted traffic stop.

Deputy Ryland Fluhr was in the 8000 block of North Devonshire Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday when he observed a vehicle being driven by a male who had an outstanding Bartholomew County warrant.

When Fluhr exited his vehicle, the man, identified as H. Travis Lay, 39, of 8277 N. Waterford Drive, had already left his vehicle and ran behind residences in the neighborhood, deputies said.

A foot pursuit ensued through several backyards. As other deputies arrived to assist, they located Lay and took him into custody, deputies said.

Lay was arrested on preliminary charges of driving while suspended with a prior conviction, resisting law enforcement and the warrant, deputies said. He remains in the Bartholomew County Jail being held in lieu of $67,500 bond, jail officials said.
