North no-hits Braves

TERRE HAUTE — Class 4A No. 5 Columbus North finished off an undefeated Conference Indiana season with a 5-1 win at Terre Haute South, then got a no-hitter from Reese Harmon in a 9-0 victory against the Braves in a non-conference game to complete a doubleheader sweep.

Jakob Meyer and Casper Clark combined on a two-hitter and did not allow an earned run in the opener. Grant Trinkle and Austin Bode each went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

In the second game Harmon needed only 69 pitches in the no-hitter. He struck out one and walked three.

Clark went 4 for 4 with a double two RBIs to lead the Bull Dogs (17-5, 5-0) at the plate. Homare Takauchi went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Adam Chapman went 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Bode went 2 for 3 with a double and three RBIs.

Cougars top Eagles

NASHVILLE — Brown County led 4-1 after two innings, but North Daviess rallied for a 12-4 victory.

Bryce Walker went 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Eagles (8-12).

Jennings falls twice

NEW ALBANY — New Albany swept a doubleheader from Jennings County, winning 14-4 in six innings and 11-1 in five innings.

Owen Miller went 2 for 3 with two RBIs in the opener. Jacob Vogel also had two RBIs.

Vogel went 2 for 2 to lead the Panthers (5-12) in the second game.

North rallies for win

SELLERSBURG — Columbus North trailed 6-0 after two innings before rallying for an 11-9 win at Silver Creek.

The Bull Dogs (10-8) still were down 8-4 after four innings, but Bailey Lofton clubbed three-run homers in the fifth and sixth, and Meghan Waggoner followed Lofton’s second homer with a solo shot.

Lofton finished 2 for 4 with two home runs and six RBIs. Sierra Norman went 2 for 3 with a double, and Waggoner went 2 for 4 with a homer.

Panthers win invite

SHELBYVILLE — Jennings County beat Cambridge City Lincoln 8-3 and Shelbyville 7-2 to win Shelbyville’s Golden Bear Invitational.

Gabby Mahoney was the winning pitcher in both games for the Panthers (18-5).

Bull Dogs go 2-1

INDIANAPOLIS — No. 7 Columbus North went 2-1 against three other ranked teams in the North Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs fell to No. 12 Fort Wayne Carroll 3-2 before bouncing back with a 4-1 win against No. 9 Homestead and a 3-2 triumph against No. 13 North Central.

Servane Cloteaux and Tiffany Fu went 3-0 at No. 2 doubles for the Bull Dogs (17-4), winning all three matches in straight sets. Ashlie Wilson won two straight-set matches at No. 1 singles before falling in a third-set supertiebreaker against North Central.

Eva Chevalier went 2-1 at at No. 2 singles. Shweta Srinivasan at No. 3 singles and Jaline Tay and Ali Bergman at No. 1 doubles went 1-2.

North ties for third

LEBANON — No. 13 Columbus North tied for third in Zionsville’s Sollman Invitational. No. 1 Carmel won with a 295 to 307 for Guerin Catholic, 317 for North and Penn and 321 for No. 3 Center Grove.

Drew Smith finished second individually with a 72 to lead the Bull Dogs. Henry Kiel added a 76, Luke Schneider had an 82 and Luke VanDeventer and Jacob Niedbalski each shot 87.

Lancer wins medalist

GREENSBURG — Edinburgh’s Bladen Hancock won medalist honors with an 82, and Hauser finished third, Edinburgh fifth and South Decatur sixth in the Mid-Hoosier Conference Tournament.

Southwestern (Shelby) won with a 375 at North Branch. North Decatur finished second with a 377, followed by Hauser (413), Morristown (427), Edinburgh (451) and South Decatur (469).

Ethan Wallace led the Jets with a 98. Sam Johnson carded a 104, Justice Gilliland added a 105, Keagan Miller shot 106 and Justin Stafford had a 121.

Jordan Myers added a 115 for the Lancers. Travis Jones shot 119, and Noah Childers had a 135.

Nick Bales led the Cougars with a 100. Evan Wullenweber carded a 120, Grant Vanatta added a 121, Tyler Hibberd shot 128 and Garrett Bates had a 137.

Eagle wins medalist

GOSPORT — Parker VanNess won medalist honors with a 2-over-par 74 to lead Brown County to a seventh-place finish in the Western Indiana Conference Tournament.

Greencastle won with a 323 at Rolling Meadows. The Eagles finished with a 370.

Curtis Lookebill added an 89 for Brown County. Cooper VanNess shot 97, Rex Watters had a 110.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

East slides to fourth

NORTH VERNON — With the final two events being scored from Friday night’s Hooiser Hills Conference meet, Columbus East fell back to fourth place with 69 1/2 points, and Jennings County slid back to sixth with 50 points.

The Olympians were in third place, and the Panthers were in fifth after results of only 14 of the 16 events were counted Friday because of a computer malfunction. the final two events were entered on Saturday.

Floyd Central won the meet with 167 1/2 points. Jennings’ Carter Leak, who won the 3,200 meters, was the only local individual champion.
