A local chapter of a Hindu organization expressed appreciation to 10 local teachers during a recent event at the Bartholomew County Public Library.
The Columbus chapter of Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh, a nonprofit social and cultural organization that works to preserve and promote Hindu culture and values, organized the Guru Vandana event May 4 in the Red Room at the Bartholomew County Public Library.
Guru Vandana is a way to expresses gratitude and reverence to a teacher (guru), in Hindu culture. The local event was organized to thank teachers for their contributions, and coincide with Teacher Appreciation Week in the United States, designated as the first week in May.
Seventy-five people attended the event, including the honored teachers and seven students.
Cultural programs were performed by the students to demonstrate their talents apart from school. Adults and students participated in a fashion walk to represent the 29 states in India with their traditional attire.
