Deputies arrest local woman twice in 20 hours for OWI

Bartholomew County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a local woman on multiple drug-related charges after a traffic stop and learned it was the woman’s second operating a vehicle while intoxicated arrest within 20 hours.

Deputy Dustin Newland was in the 500 block of Central Avenue at 8:13 p.m. Thursday when he saw a vehicle making multiple traffic infractions, deputies said.

When he stopped the vehicle, he saw marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle, deputies said.

The driver, identified as Zoe Conrad, 19, 1001 Ashford Park Place, was displaying signs of impairment and was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital, deputies said.

She was later taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance, deputies said.

In addition to the marijuana, deputies also found a controlled substance inside the vehicle, deputies said.

Conrad’s arrest came less than 20 hours after Deputy Grant Carlson had arrested her on a previous charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, said Sheriff Matt Myers, who described having the driver arrested twice in such a short period of time as “absolutely ridiculous.”

“This young woman has been arrested twice within a 20-hour period or operating a motor vehicle while under the influence,” Myers said. “Our deputies do a great job getting dangerous drivers off the roadways, however, some people just don’t get it. I hope this young woman gets the help she needs before she gets behind the wheel again.”
