
The weather finally cooperated with the Jennings County Outlaw Karting races held at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon. Poor spring weather kept the track from opening on time, but on Sunday, the competitors were greeted with sunshine.
Clayton Perry, the track promoter announced that since the Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing will be off tonight that the Jennings County karters will be racing this evening to fill the local void.
The winners from last Sunday at Jennings County were Corey Vanover (340 clones), Kevin Cunningham (rwyb), Jason Chadd (rookie flatkart), Jacob Owens (380 clone), jacobi Clark (jr. 3), Parker Perry (boxstock outlaw and jr. clone) and Reece Saldana (intermediate outlaw).
Gilpin takes speedway feature
Devin Gilpin of Columbus won his second super late model feature of the year on June 1 at Brownstown Speedway. Gilpin took the victory over Chad Stapleton, Shelby Miles, Greg Johnson and Jared Bailey.
Tyler Nicely won the American Modified Series race over Levi Kissinger, Will Krup, Adam Stricker and Trent Young.
Steve Peeden took his first pro late model feature of the year over Jeremy Hines, Isaac Rainey, Marty O’Neal and Austin Burns.
Tim Schumpe won his first super stock main of the season and the second of his career. Branden Carr was second, followed by Josh Divine, Tucker Chastain and Trey Chastain.
Rick Gumm has now made it 17 feature wins in a row after again he was victorious in the pure stock feature race. Zachary Stalker was second with Jeremy Huebner, Jim Ruddick and Michael Cranmer trailing.
Brownstown will be off tonight with no racing. The next event will be on June 15 with a pure stock special along with the pro late models, modified, super stocks and hornets. For more info, visit browns townspeedway.com.
Kramer continues
Twin Cities dominance
Joey Kramer won the crate late model feature race on June 1 at Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon. It was Kramer’s fourth win in five attempts this season at the track.
Other winners were Hunter O’Neal (410 sprints), Keaton Streeval (pure stocks), Donnie Modesty (hornets) and Trent Green (modifieds).

Cummins wins Paragon sprints
Kyle Cummins won the MSCS sprint car feature on May 31 at Paragon Speedway. Josh Cunningham took the Paragon Sprints feature race. Other winners were James Walters in the modifieds and Tyler Neal in the bombers.
The next event at Paragon will be on June 14 with the sprints, modifieds, super stocks, bombers and hornets. Paragon Speedway is now a Friday Night track after racing for several years on Saturdays. For more information, visit paragonspeedway.com.
Lawrenceburg results
Lawrenceburg Speedway hosted the World of Outlaw Sprints on May 27 with NASCAR’s Kyle Larson coming home the victor. Donny Schatz, driving for Tony Stewart, finished in second, followed by Giovanni Scelzi, Shane Stewart and Brad Sweet.
David Stremme won the modified feature race over Tyler Nicely, Adam Stricker, Dylan Woodling and Ryan Cripe.

Columbus go-kart results
Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing, which conducts racing at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, was idle on June 1, but held racing on May 24 and 25.
The winners from May 24 were Elijah Knoke (jr. 1), Ryan Roell (jr. 3), Johnny Smith (340 clone), Jameson Reed (rookie), Gary Baldwin (vintage), Aaron Fields (predator 212), Brad Wilson (clone sumo) and R.T. Lowe (flathead 365).
The winners from May 25 were Richard Frazee (vintage), Smith (clone 240), Scott Bowman (clone sumo), Matt Arrington (predator 212), Jake Roell (jr. 1), Kayla Roell (jr. 3), Mike Sullivan (clone 400), Zach Roell (rookies), Jarrod Combs (rwyb), Scott Yarling (clone 380) and Lowe (flathead 365).
Tonight, the Columbus Speedway Go-Karts will be off. The next scheduled event will be June 15.
Eldora Dream is tonight
Tonight at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will be the 25th Annual Dirt Late Model Dream, paying an event record $125,000 to win. Preliminary races were held on Thursday and Friday of this week. For more info, visit eldoraspeedway.com.
Tonight’s race could mark the return of defending race winner Scott Bloomquist, who is an eight-time winner of the event. Bloomquist was injured in a motorcycle accident in March and has not raced since the Georgia-Florida Speedweeks back in February.
This week in racing history
From this weekend 60 years ago in 1959, Kenny Baker won the feature race at the Columbus Speedway. Pat Patterson was second, followed by Paul Eddy, Orval Yeadon and John Warner.
From 50 years ago in 1969 at the 25th Street Speedway in Columbus, Paul Crockett took his second straight feature win over Bill Kimmel, Jack Owens and Cooley Singer.
From 1969 at Brownstown Speedway, Crockett won the late model feature race over Kenny Simpson, Dick Gaines, Ray Godsey and Rex Huntley.
In 1979 at Brownstown, it was Dennis Boknecht winning the late model feature race over Noel Witcher, Jim Curry, Ray Godsey and Steve Trabue. Troy Burton won the hobby stock main over Larry Harris, Jack Taylor, Cooley Singer and Darrell Smallwood.
From 40 years ago in 1979 at Whitewater Valley Speedway in Liberty, it was Pat Patrick winning the late model feature eover John Holt, Matt Gilardi, Al Woodard and Dick Phillips. Danny Eichler won the limited feature over Bob Smith, Troy Burton, Russ Smiley and Dennis Moore.
Also from 1979 at Paragon Speedway, it as Danny Smith winning the sprint car feature over Bob Kinser, Randy Kinser, Bobby Adkins and Bobby Black. Lee Fleetwood won the stock car feature.
From this weekend in 1979 at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, it was Jeff Swindell winning the sprint car main event over Bob Kinser, Tom Goad, Danny Smith and Ron Dorsett. Fred Gerteisen took the late model feature over Ira Bastin, Dusty Chapman, Mike Munson and Jesse Ladd.
In 1979 at Twin Cities, Tommy Day won the late model feature over Russ Petro, Johnny Robbins, Russ Smiley and Ron Hoover.
From 30 years ago in 1989 at Brownstown, the late model winner was Jim Curry over John Gill, Mike Gibbs, Steve Barnett and Lee Fleetwood. Joe Johnson took the street stock feature race over Mark Barber, Tom Seadler, Steve Trabue and Dave Kerr. Shannon Stewart and Frankie Coomer were winners in the bomber division features.
