Columbus racer nets three wins in May

Ten-year-old Gunnar Setser of Columbus picked up three feature wins at three different tracks in the month of May. Setser, who races a restrictor micro sprint, is the son of Jason and Mindy Setser.

Gunnar picked up feature wins on May 18 at Circus City Speedway in Peru, May 25 at Wayne County Speedway in Illinois and May 31 at U.S. 24 Speedway in Logansport.

Clay wins UMRA feature

Cory Clay won the UMRA King of the TQ Midgets event held on June 11 at the Jennings County 4-H Fairgrounds in North Vernon. Trailing Clay to the checkers were Joey Paxson, Ron Combs, Robbie Roland and Matt Lux.

USAC midget week results

The USAC Indiana Midget week is in the books with five different winners in the five events that were held last week.

The series started on June 4 at Montpelier Motor Speedway in Montpelier with Logan Seavey taking the win. Tanner Thorson was second with Zeb Wise, Tyler Courtney and Dillon Welch completing the top five drivers.

The next night on June 5, the series ventured to Gas City I-69 Speedway, with Justin Grant scoring the win. Cannon McIntosh came home in second followed by NASCAR’s Kyle Larson, Jason McDougal and Thorson.

On June 6, Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville was the destination, with Thorson taking the victory over Seavey, Jerry Coons Jr., Kevin Thomas Jr. and Chris Windom.

The June 7 event at Bloomington Speedway saw Courtney take the winner’s share of the purse over Seavey, Chad Boat, Windom and Ethan Mitchell.

The next stop was June 8 at Lawrenceburg Speedway, where Windom took the win over Boat, Seavey, Thorson and McIntosh.

The final event was scheduled for Kokomo Speedway was rained out on Sunday.

Lawrenceburg racing tonight

Lawrenceburg Speedway will hold a regular racing program tonight with sprints, modifieds, pure stocks and hornets scheduled to compete. For more info, visit lawrenceburgspeedway.com.

Bloomington idle until July

The next event at Bloomington will be on July 5 with a fireworks show along with a racing program consisting of modifieds, super stocks, non-sanctioned midgets and MMSA mini-sprints. For the latest info, visit bloomingtonspeedway.com.

Paragon’s next race Friday

Paragon Speedway held a regular program on June 7 with Bill Rose winning the sprint car feature.

Other winners were Reece Novak (hornets), Josh Litton (bombers), Josh Boller (super stocks) and Tyler Nicely (modifieds).

The next event at Paragon will be on Friday with the Chuck Amati Classic for sprints paying $3,000 to win. Also, on the card will be modifieds and hornets. For more info, visit paragonspeedway.com.

Sheppard wins Eldora Dream

Brandon Sheppard captured the $125,000-to-win 25th Annual Dirt Late Model Dream at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Sheppard, who started 15th, edged out Dale McDowell by 0.056-second to win his first crown jewel race at the track. Trailing Sheppard and McDowell across the finish line were Shane Clanton, Chris Ferguson and Tyler Erb.

There were 92 drivers on hand for the events, the most for the Dream since 2012. Tonight, Eldora will host an Ohio Sprint Speedweek race featuring the All-Star Circuit of Champion Sprint Cars. Also racing will be modifieds and stock cars. For more info, visit eldoraspeedway.com.

Brownstown back tonight

Twin Cities racing tonight

After being rained out last weekend, Twin Cities Raceway Park in Vernon has scheduled for tonight a full program of crate late models, modifieds, pure stocks, hornets and 305 RaceSaver sprints. For further info, visit twincitiestracks.com.

Columbus go-karts off again

After being off for two weeks the Columbus Speedway Go-Kart Racing, which holds events at the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds, will be idle for two more weeks while the fair board is working on the drainage issue at the track, according to race promoter Tim Reed. The next scheduled event will be on June 29.

This week in racing history

From 50 years ago in 1969 at Bloomington Speedway, it was Bob Fleetwood winning the stock car feature race over Cecil Beavers, Ray Godsey, Kenny Simpson and Jack Owens.

Also, from 1969, Paul Crockett won the feature at the 25 th Street Speedway in Columbus.

From 40 years ago in 1979 at Twin Cities the feature winner was Dee Kramer over Tommy Day, John Sparks, Johnny Robbins and Chuck Gilpin.

Also from 1979 at Brownstown, Don Hobbs won the late model feature race over Ray Godsey, Doug Ault, Dusty Chapman and Dennis Boknecht. Daryl Herbert won the hobby stock feature over Tony Moore, Steve Rollins, Larry Harris and Jack Taylor.

On this weekend in 1979 at Bloomington, Ron Dorsett won the sprint car feature over Bobby Black, Bob Kinser, Kerry Norris and Ron Fisher. Rodney Harris won the stock car feature over Ronnie Rhodes, Roger Sullivan, Sam Stockon and Darrell Smallwood.

From 30 years ago in 1989 at Brownstown, the late model feature winner was Jim Curry over Paul Shafer, Bob Pierce, Steve Barnett and Gary Barrow. Joe Johnson won the street stock main over Mark Barber, Earl Plessinger, Scott Patman and Tom Seadler. The two bomber feature races were won by Don Fleetwood and Daryl Leveridge.

Also from 1989 at Twin Cities, Lee Fleetwood won the late model feature over Charlie Sentman and Merrill Downey. Tim Clark grabbed the street stock feature over Mark Clark and Phil Fultz.

From 20 years ago in 1999, Mike Fields won the street stock special at Brownstown over Rusty Smiley, Gregg O’Neill, Tim Clark and Nelson Gingery. Matt Bex won the bomber feature over Sam Chastain, Jeff Helton, Darren Crawhorn and Charlie Stevens Jr. Phil Fultz captured the mini-stock feature.

Also from 1999 at Bloomington, the sprint car feature went to Brad Fox over Justin Marvel, Bryan Chaudion, Derek Scheffel and Jonathan Vennard. Kerry Norris took the modified feature race over Jack Taylor, Terry Trammell, Richie Lex and Troy Jarvis. Lee Hobbs was victorious in the street stock main over Gregg O’Neill, Gerald Todd, Roy Bruce Jr. and Greg Miller.

At Paragon Speedway in 1999, the sprint car feature was won by Austin King over Greg Pittman, Terry Eup, Leon Gentry and Rick Barlow. Jeff Starks won the street stock feature and Jason Trader took the bomber feature.
