Relay for Life moves location for Saturday event

The American Cancer Society’s annual Relay For Life fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday has changed its location to the main and auxiliary gyms at Central Middle School, 725 Seventh St.

The location change was made because of organizers’ concerns about the weather forecast, which calls for rain..

The event, open to the public, carries a superhero theme. It begins with an opening ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by the cancer patient survivor lap. Organizers suggest that survivors arrive at 10:30 a.m. for registration. They also are invited to stay for a noon taco lunch in the school cafeteria. Teams are being asked to decorate their areas with something related to the theme and to bring silent and live auction items.

If weather permits, teams may also walk outside on the track at the school.Activities during the relay include guest superheroes, a cornhole tournament, and children’s activities.

Last year’s Relay For Life generated $101,000.
