FLAT ROCK
Robert Avery “Hawk” Garland, 74, of Flat Rock, passed away June 14, 2019 at 1:38 p.m., at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
Robert was born on Dec 14, 1944 in Spray Town, the son of Clay and Ione Garland. He married Brenda Mercer.
He loved his work at Cummins Tech Center until he retired. His favorite pastime was his Goldwing Motorcycle and the many trips he had taken. His grandkids were his life as well.
A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with grandson, Zebediah Gibson officiating. Calling will be from 12:00 until 2:00 before service time Sunday at the funeral home. In keeping with his wishes, Robert will be cremated.
Survivors include, his wife, Brenda Mercer; Children, Joseph Garland, Stephanie Garland, Lisa Newby, Mike Newby, Bill Newby and Jamie Newby. 14 grandkids, 14 great-grandkids, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Shelly Garland; and a sister Virginia.
