A wanted Columbus man tried to escape arrest on a bicycle, but was apprehended by police.
At about 2:45 p.m. Thursday, a Columbus Police Department officer observed Zackary C. Townsend, 29, 112 Cherry St., Columbus, riding a bicycle near 11th and Chestnut streets, said Lt. Matt Harris, CPD spokesman.
The officers confirmed a local warrant for Townsend’s arrest and attempted to speak with him. Townsend refused to stop for the officers and rode his bicycle through several alleys in an attempt to evade arrest, Harris said.
He was eventually apprehended in the 800 block of Reed Street.
Officers transported Townsend to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was remanded on a charge of resisting law enforcement and the outstanding warrant. He is being held without bond.
