The Columbus Police Department was recently recognized for the department’s support of their National Guard and military Reserve employees.

During the award banquet, which was hosted by the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) and held in Indianapolis in June, CPD received the “Above and Beyond Award.”

The award is presented by the ESGR State Committee to recognize employers at the local level who have gone above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA) by providing their National Guard and Reserve employees additional, non-mandated benefits such as differential or full pay to offset lost wages.

The Columbus Police Department currently has 11 officers serving in the armed forces in an active duty, National Guard or Reserve capacity. In total, 33% of Columbus police officers have either served or are currently serving in our nation’s armed forces.

“We are very proud of our police officers that continue to serve in our military,” said Columbus Police Chief Jon Rohde. “These officers have a very special skill-set and understand the importance of service. We are proud to work with these officers to ensure that they are able to attend the training and military exercises they need to fulfill their obligations and help protect our country and community.”
