IUPUC Division of Education receives grant to fund study abroad trip

The Indiana University Women’s Philanthropy Leadership Council has awarded a grant to the IUPUC Division of Education to support a study abroad trip to Italy.

IUPUC will send 15 students to Italy in spring 2020 to learn about the philosophies of Italy’s educational system.

Students can apply for the scholarship funds via IU’s iAbroad system starting Aug. 27.

In order to participate in the study abroad trip, which takes place from March 15-21, 2020, during spring break, students must enroll in one of three course options for the spring 2020 semester.

The coursework examines early and elementary education in Italy in order to more deeply understand critical concepts in education relevant to teaching in the U.S. and globally. It is particularly suited for, but not limited to, Education, Sociology, and Communications disciplines.

The courses include:

EDUC-E 201: Multicultural and Global Awareness

EDUC-F 401: Special Topics in Education.

EDUC-W 505: Special Topics in Education (for graduate students).

All applicants must meet IUPUC’s minimum standard eligibility requirements and have a minimum GPA of 2.75.

Students of any major from any IU campus will be considered, but must be prepared to participate in all course sessions either in person or remotely. Alumni and current teachers may also participate as visiting non-degree students.

Participants wishing to enroll as graduate students will submit a resume. Interviews will likely be part of the selection process.
