Columbus Regional Hospital will celebrate its re-designation as a Baby-Friendly Hospital with an open-to-the-public ceremony and reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Aug. 26 in the Kroot Auditorium on the hospital campus. Refreshments will be served from 4 to 5 p.m.
Sponsored by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, the program recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.
CRH received its initial designation in 2014. The re-designation is given after a rigorous on-site survey is conducted. The designation means CRH follows a series of guidelines, practices and policies that offer every mother the information, confidence and skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding, while assisting mothers who cannot or choose not to breastfeed with information and skills about feeding their baby safely.
There are more than 570 active Baby-Friendly hospitals and birth centers in the U.S.
