U.S. Rep. Greg Pence visited Camp Atterbury near Edinburgh and the Muscatatuck Urban Training Complex near Butlerville on Aug. 23.
The visit to the collaborative training installations operated by the Indiana National Guard allowed the congressman and Columbus resident to learn more about the roles Atterbury and Muscatatuck, located in Indiana’s 6th congressional district, play in national security.
The Atterbury and Muscatatuck sites encompass more than 37,000 acres combined of training and maneuver space. They also contribute to more than 1,800 jobs and $60 million in gross domestic product to the district’s economy, according to an economic study by the Indiana National Guard.

Pence described both as critical components to national security.
“The advanced capabilities located right here in Indiana provides our military and governmental agencies with the resources and tools necessary to defend our nation and allies,” Pence said.
During the tour, Pence saw a new cyber academy collaboration between Muscatatuck and Ivy Tech. He was briefed on efforts to combat new and emerging threats in cyberspace.
As part of the day’s activities, Pence also donated dozens of books to the Hoosier Youth Challenge Academy. The books came from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., as part of a national program to distribute surplus books to local libraries.
