HOPE — One year after raising nearly $7,000 in a single day selling root beer floats, the Students Fund of Hope has an even more ambitious upcoming fundraiser.
The organization is joining forces with car enthusiasts and local musicians during the upcoming “First Fridays Cruise-In” on Sept. 6 in the Hope Town Square.
At 5 p.m., several unique cars and trucks will be on display while representatives of the organization serve food inside the shelter house.
Starting at 6 p.m., the six-member “Good Times Band” will perform a two-hour concert at the bandstand. Members of the Hope-based band are Larry McCrory, Jerry McCrory, Gary Campbell, Arnold Ellison, Larry Martin and Brian Bower.
At the same time the band is playing, organizers will be entertaining the kids with a variety of children’s activities.
One of the highlights of the evening will be an 8:30 p.m. presentation of the 2016 Disney Pixar film “Finding Dory.”
In this 3-D computer-animated adventure, a friendly but forgetful blue tang fish begins a search for her long-lost parents. During her subsequent adventure, lessons are learned regarding the real meaning of family.
Those who plan to attend are urged to bring lawn chairs, since public seating is limited.
Although all events are free, freewill donations to the Student’s Fund of Hope are encouraged.
The organization was created by friends Whitney Budd and Stephanie Long to raise money to pay school-related expenses for Hope children from financially disadvantaged families.
The organization has raised about $30,000 since it was founded in July 2018. It now has a board of directors to help make important decisions, such as where contributions should be spent to help the most students, Budd said.
