Registration opens for Monster Mash Dash 5K

Registration is now open for the Monster Mash Dash 5K and Fun Run on Oct. 26 at W.D. Richards Elementary School, 3311 Fairlawn Drive.

The Halloween-themed race and festival is organized by Columbus East High School senior Makayla Reeves for her senior project. All proceeds will benefit the Richards Elementary PTO.

The 5K walk and run begins at 10 a.m., followed by the Kids Fun Run at 11:30 a.m. at Richards Elementary.

The festival runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the school and will feature pumpkin painting, bounce houses, food vendors, live music, raffle prizes and a bake sale.

Registration for the 5K is $20, and $12 for Richards students. The registration fee includes a T-shirt and finisher’s medal. Registration for the Kids Fun Run is $7 per child and includes a finisher’s medal.

Exceptional athlete cheer team seeks new members

Columbus Power Elite is welcoming new members to join its special needs cheer team, the Starlites.

Fundraising coordinator Amanda Rogers said the team is open for all ages 3 and over with varying disabilities and is free for the athletes and their families.

The team is hosting a parent meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Columbus Power Elite, 746 Greenway Drive. The first practice will also take place at this time.

Regular practices will take place every Thursday from 6:45 to 7:30 p.m. at Columbus Power Elite. The team will compete in two competitions this season.
