Columbus police officers arrested a local man on multiple charges after the vehicle he was riding in was stopped for a minor traffic violation on Monday night.

At approximately 11:45 p.m., Columbus police stopped a vehicle near 25th Street and Taylor Road after observing the vehicle’s taillights were not working, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

The officers noted that the vehicle’s occupants appeared nervous and suspected that the passenger provided officers with a false name, Harris said. Officers later positively identified the passenger as Gregory T. Louden, 38, of 2525 16th St.

A CPD canine was requested and alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle, Harris said.

Officers searched the vehicle and located methamphetamine and heroin in the vehicle near where Louden had been seated. Officers also confirmed two body attachment warrants and an out-of-county warrant for Louden’s arrest, Harris said.

Louden was taken into custody and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail on the following preliminary charges:

Possession of heroin

Possession of methamphetamine

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Two Bartholomew County body attachment warrants

Jennings County arrest warrant

Louden was being held in the Bartholomew County Jail with no bond.
