North wins showdown

BLOOMINGTON — Co-No. 5-ranked Columbus North pulled out a three-set win at No. 1 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory against No. 4 Terre Haute South in a match played at Bloomington South that likely will decide the Conference Indiana title.

Bhavey Jain beat Matthew Roberts 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2 singles, and Adam Saad downed Caleb Morris 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 singles for the Bull Dogs (7-0, 3-0). Matthew Liu and Joey Zhao gave them the deciding point with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Jacob Thacker and Seth Gage at No. 1 doubles.

North’s Nathan Lin fell to Canaan Sellers 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Eamon Ma and Will King lost to Aiden Fellows and Stephen Kallubham 7-6 (7), 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

East falls to Stars

BEDFORD — Columbus East won at No. 3 singles, but that was all in a 4-1 loss at Bedford North Lawrence.

Danny Murphy beat Graham Turner 7-5, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Olympians (1-7). Pranav Kumar fell to Cade Prove 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 1 singles, and Derek Heideman lost to Adam Tlustek 2-6, 7-6 (5), (12-10) at No. 2 singles.

East’s Emmit Romine and Matthew Degner fell to Wyatt Scherschel and Cameron Gratzer 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 doubles. Wyatt Romine and Caleb Wettschurak lost to Konley Woodward and Steven Graham 6-3, 7-6 (3) at No. 2 doubles.

Trojans topple Jets

FAIRLAND — Hauser won at No. 1 singles, but Triton Central took the other spots in handing the Jets a 4-1 loss.

Ethan Wallace beat Caleb Anderson 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 singles for Hauser (0-6). Keagan Miller fell to Alex Crouse 7-6, 6-4 at No. 2 singles, and Levi Gollmer lost to Jack Baker 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.

The Jets’ Caleb Hoover and Sam Miller fell to Blake Anderson and Ryan Shipley 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Carson Rose and Dawson Paul lost to Quintin Potts and Wyatt Robey 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Cubs oust Lancers

FRANKLIN — Franklin won all five matches in straight sets in a 5-0 win against Edinburgh in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament.

Brayden McManaway fell to Luke Neville 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Kolton Reed lost to 2. Jackson Klem 6-0, 6-0at No. 2 singles and Travis Jones fell to Nolan Netter 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for the Lancers (1-5).

Edinburgh’s Parker Newman and Chase Littlejohn lost to Nathan Tyler and Sam Auger 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 doubles. Cash Cunningham and Trevor Moon fell to Jackson Hedges and Zion Parkhurst 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.

Rebels top Trinity

ELIZABETH — South Central won four matches in straight sets in handing Trinity Lutheran a 5-0 defeat.

Jace Crockett fell to Ryan Steen 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, Noah Voelker lost to Frank Goodman 6-3, 6-7 (2), (11-9) at No. 2 singles and Ryan Kleman fell to Evan Schoer 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles for the Cougars.

Trinity’s Jack VonDielingen and Cameron Gruenwald lost to Zach Needler and Austin Tyree 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 doubles. Luke Pollert and Nathan Voelker fell to Dawson O’Conner and Caden Cunningham 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2 doubles.

East shuts out Stars

BEDFORD — Alana Dwenger netted two goals and an assist to lead Columbus East to a 4-0 Hoosier Hills Conference win at Bedford North Lawrence.

Gabi Schuetz added a goal and an assist for the Olympians (3-3-1, 2-0). Maya Federle scored the other goal, and Jaeda Berkemeier had an assist.

East outshot the Stars 16-0. Karisma Parker, Erin McIntyra and Anna Liimatta combined for the shutout.

GCA edges Trinity

SEYMOUR — Greenwood Christian Academy jumped out to a 2-0 halftime lead and held on for a 3-2 win at Trinity Lutheran.

Emma Myers and Mary Matthews scored goals for the Cougars (2-4). Emma Goecker and Myers had assists.

Trinity’s Ashley Goecker recorded 15 saves.

North takes tri match

FRANKLIN — No. 6 Columbus North used a trio of 39s to win a tri match at The Legends. The Bull Dogs finished with a 158 team total to 162 for Franklin and 163 for No. 7 Center Grove.

Nathaly Munnicha, Annie Anderson and Yestika Nischol all shot 39 to tie for medalist honors and lead North. Ella Wilks carded a 41, Gwen Anderson added a 45 and Macy Euler had a 51.

East avenges loss

Lauren Steinwedel tied for medalist honors with a 48 and Columbus East avenged a loss to Greensburg the previous evening with a 197-206 victory at Otter Creek.

Peyton Meier and Cristen Martinez each shot 49 for the Olympians. Katie Hong carded a 51, Harley Gant added a 52, Mattie Shoaf had a 65 and Avery Brooks finished with a 70.

Eagles down Patriots

NASHVILLE — Allison Stogsdill won medalist honors with a 43 to lead Brown County to a 196-247 win over Owen Valley at Salt Creek.

Taylor Poling carded a 48 for the Eagles. Ainslie Winton added a 52, Aubrey Hollander shot 53, Avery Patterson had a 58, Annika Evenson finished with a 62, Courtney Hill shot 64 and Abby Padgett had a 65.

Lancers finish second

TRAFALGAR — Edinburgh finished second in a tri match at Tameka Woods. Host Indian Creek won with a 208 to 224 for the Lancers and 238 for Southwestern (Shelby).

Morgan Calhoun led Edinburgh with a 51. Haven Link carded a 56, Annelise Lollar added a 58, Maddy McGaha shot 64, Jillian Turner had a 65 and Serenity Smith finished with a 72.

Bull Dogs fall in 4

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus North rallied from a one-set deficit to the the match, but Southport took the final two sets for a 25-14, 20-25, 25-22, 25-19 Conference Indiana win against Columbus North.

Emma Tynan led the Bull Dogs (5-5, 1-1) with 11 kills and 19 digs. Reagan Kane recorded 22 assists, Sarah Bennett and Madison White each had three blocks and Jalynn Reardon served three aces.

Also for North, Tynan added two blocks and two aces, and Reardon had two assists and 16 digs. Gabby Genth pounded six kills, Madi Roop notched four kills, Kate Whaley tallied 10 digs and Kane added nine digs and an ace.

Jets sweep Jackets

MORRISTOWN — Class A No. 8 Hauser opened its Mid-Hoosier Conference schedule with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-19 win at Morristown.

Hannah Johnson recorded eight kills and three aces, and Aunaka Wasil had 24 assists and 10 digs to lead the Jets (10-2, 1-0). Shelby Fugate pounded eight kills, Olivia Wright notched five blocks, Melanie Taylor tallied 10 digs and Kylie Lock and Mary Branum each served three aces.

Also for Hauser, Marnie Schwartzkopf added four kills and four blocks, and Johnson had three assists and two blocks. Lock contributed two assists, and Andie Clark had eight digs.

Crusaders ace Southside

INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus Christian served 34 aces as a team in rolling to a 25-8, 25-5, 25-11 win at Southside Christian.

Madison Henderson recorded four kills and 12 aces, and Kayla Jones had two assists and 12 aces for the Crusaders (8-0). Hannah Stair notched seven assists and six aces, and Ellie Ridder added three kills and three aces.

Also for Columbus Christian, Lauren Hunnicutt tallied one kill and one block. Emily Stair had one kill and one ace, and Ann Marie Gandy pounded one kill.

Colonial handles Hawks

INDIANAPOLIS — The Columbus Hawks came close in the first set, but fell to Colonial Christian 25-23, 25-14, 25-11.

Caleigh Owen led the Hawks (2-6) with four assists, 12 digs and two aces. Hailey Beth Rutledge pounded six kills, and McKiah Shearer had four assists.

Also for the Hawks, Lila Hudson recorded three kills and two blocks. Sarah Lorimor notched two assists, and Natalie Arnold tallied eight digs.

Panthers lose in 4

NORTH VERNON — Jennings County split the first two sets with Greensburg, but the Pirates won the final two to claim a 25-17, 22-25, 26-24, 26-24 victory.

Abi Vogel led the Panthers (5-9) with 15 kills and one solo and eight assist blocks. Megan Vogel recorded 21 assists, Hanah Bertram tallied 36 digs and Carmen Kopitzke served two aces.

Also for Jennings, Caitlin Hurley pounded 10 kills, and Koptitzke notched 16 assists. Shelby Wilson had one solo and three assist blocks, Karma Warren added 15 digs and Liz Ertel served one ace.

Chargers stop Cougars

GREENSBURG — South Decatur came closer in each set, but dropped a 25-11, 25-17, 25-19 MHC decision at North Decatur.

Lana Bell led the Cougars (2-15) with three kills, one block and one ace. Whitnye Burton recorded seven assists, and Kalie Fry tallied 14 digs.

Also for South Decatur, Savannah Bushhorn and Loryn Pate each pounded two kills. Lily Rigby notched 11 digs, and Bell added nine digs.

Trinity tops Oldenburg

SEYMOUR — Class A No. 3 Trinity Lutheran had little trouble in rolling to a 25-13, 25-11, 25-13 win against Oldenburg Academy.

Sydney Jaynes pounded nine kills and four blocks, and Kamzi Gross had 18 digs and four aces to lead the Cougars (11-4). Bailey Reynolds recorded 18 assists, and Ruthie Bingham served four aces.

Also for Trinity, Bailey Tabeling added eight kills and one block. Paige Lawrence notched 10 assists, and Elly Carter had 10 digs.

Jets pick up victory

MORRISTOWN — Diego Vasquez scored three goals to lead Hauser to a 5-1 Mid-Hoosier Conference win at Morristown.

Franco Avila and Tyler Hollman also scored for the Jets (2-2, 0-1), who outshot the Yellow Jackets 13-4. Caleb Walker recorded three saves.

Eagles get dramatic win

GREENWOOD — Will Normile scored a goal with 20 seconds left in the game to give Brown County a dramatic 4-3 win at Greenwood.

Will Normile and Sam Normile scored first-half goals, and the Eagles (2-4-1) tied the game with an own goal in the 75th minute. Will Normile also had an assist.

Ty Leslie played the first half in goal and posted five saves, and Wyatt Fox recorded 15 saves in the second half.
