The Columbus East junior varsity girls soccer team improved to 7-0 with a 3-1 win Thursday at Batesville.
Maggie Mathews, Sydney Berkemeier and Catherine Wolf scored goals for the Olympians. Wolf, Riley Gaskill and Ashley Thomasson had assists. Anna Liimatta recorded three saves.
East was coming off a 1-0 victory at Castle. Berkemeier scored the goal off an assist from Thomasson. Liimatta posted five saves.
HOCKEY
Icemen top Sharks Red
The Columbus Icemen won their preseason game 6-3 over South Sharks Red from Indianapolis/Greenwood.
Wil Tearman netted two goals and two assists, and Brayson Bennett added two goals for the Icemen. Evan Federle and Ty Boone had assists.
Jacob McMullen was the winning goalie.
GOLF
Threesome wins scramble
Eric Hahn, Brian Jones and Allen Hodapp won the Par 3 Scramble with a 3-under-par 24 at Par 3 Golf Course.
The final Par 3 scramble of the year will be on Tuesday.
BOYS TENNIS
Northside wins twice
Northside beat Seymour 4-1 on Tuesday and Center Grove North 5-0 on Wednesday.
Parth Shah, Param Patel and Sam Song won both of their singles matches, and Nathan Enneking and Steven Sun won both of their doubles matches for the Spartans (4-1). Michael Crossman and Leo Guo won their doubles match against Center Grove North.
VOLLEYBALL
Panthers sweep Spartans
The Jennings County seventh- and eighth-graders swept Northside on Tuesday. The Panthers won the seventh-grade game 25-17, 25-21 and the eighth-grade contest 25-10, 25-20.
Claire Hack led the Jennings seventh-graders with five aces. Julian Woodard had five kills and five aces, and Alivia Elmore served six aces to lead the eighth-graders.
The Panther eighth-graders came back Thursday with a 25-18, 25-15 win against Immanuel Lutheran. Charlee Barlow led Jennings (9-3) with four kills and three aces.
The Panther seventh-graders fell to Immanuel Lutheran 25-9, 25-21. Markiah Bowman served one ace.
CROSS-COUNTRY
Jennings boys take third
Jennings County Middle School’s boys finished third in their own invitational on Thursday. Greensburg won with 23 points to 52 for St. Peter’s and 56 for the Panthers.
Zach Wahlman led Jennings with a fifth-place finish in 12 minutes, 19 seconds. Sam Fewell took seventh in 12:24, while Elijah Hatton was ninth (12:26), Brock Maschino 16th (13:34) and Riley Allman 19th (13:51).
The Panthers had three girls runners, two short of the number needed to score as a team. Justine Jones finished 20th in 16:40, while Sarah Poole took 26th in 17:04 and Paige Daniels was 37th in 23:19.
PRO WRESTLING
HPW hosts ‘Labor Day Sting’
Hoosier Pro Wrestling returned to the Bartholomew County 4-H Fairgrounds Sept. 7 for “Labor Day Sting.”
Duke Thee Nuke pinned Kovus, Omega D destroyed David Dawson and Cooter pinned Scarecrow after Scarecrow beat newcomer Bubba James. Lightning Bolt with Miss Courtney lost to Drax O’Brien by count out, and Guy Lombardo pinned Dodo Brown to win the HPW Cruiserweight title.
Dynamite Dillen and Buck Sexton kept the Tag belts by beating Tank and Fireball with Damian Saint by DQ. Butcher Manson with his Slaughterhouse Gang beat Tim Lutz and the Heat for the HPW Heavyweight Title.
HPW returns to to the Fairgrounds Oct. 5 with WWE Hall of Famer and wrestling legend Handsome Jimmy Valiant, The Boy From New York City.
