Staff Reports
The Columbus Police Department is investigating a report made by a third party in regards to a threat made on a social media post involving an unspecified act of violence today at Central Middle School.
Columbus police issued a statement on its Facebook page about the investigation at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday.
As of Tuesday night, officers had not confirmed any credible threat to students or staff at Central Middle School, according to Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman. Several rumors and false, inaccurate information is being shared online, Harris said.
Several Columbus police officers, including school resources officers, are working to determine the source of the social media post, the department said.
“BCSC (Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp.) is working closely with CPD and our school resource officers on this situation,” BCSC wrote in a statement on Facebook. “We will update our schools and staff should more information be communicated to us from our local law enforcement partners.”
Josh Burnett, a spokesperson for BCSC, confirmed school is on as scheduled today. He said BCSC will provide more information as necessary.
