East clinches title
NEW ALBANY — Class 3A No. 4 Columbus East played New Albany to a 1-1 tie Saturday, but still clinched the Hoosier Hills Conference title.
Eric Stiles scored an unassisted goal for the Olympians (10-0-3, 5-0-1).
East outshot the Bulldogs 15-6, putting seven shots on goal to four for New Albany. Zach Roberts recorded three saves.
Bull Dogs split pair
ZIONSVILLE — Columbus North upset Class 3A No. 18 Penn 2-1 Saturday morning before falling to Evansville North 3-2 in the afternoon in the Zionsville Classic.
Graham Keele scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute and again in the 63rd minute against Penn, which scored in the 74th minute. The Kingsmen outshot the Bull Dogs (5-9-1) 37-5, putting 20 on goal to two for Columbus North. Colvin Iorio posted 19 saves.
Keele scored in the 30th and 50th minutes against Evansville North, the second coming off an assist from Luke Schneider. The Huskies outshot Columbus North 29-10, putting 11 on goal to four for the Bull Dogs. Iorio recorded seven saves in 49 minutes in goal, while Jared Marquez had four saves over the final 31 minutes.
Jets win Cougar Cup
SEYMOUR — Hauser beat Trinity Lutheran 4-1 in the semifinals and Southwestern (Hanover) 3-2 in the final to win Trinity’s Cougar Cup.
Franco Avila netted two goals, and Diego Vasquez and Aleck Lopez each scored once for the Jets against Trinity. Graham Kennedy had two assists, and Emily Harker and Diego Vasquez each added one assist. Caleb Walker posted eight saves.
Against Southwestern, Hauser (8-4) used goals from Avila, Vasquez and Lopez. Diego Vasquez notched two assists, and Avila had one assist. Walker recorded five saves.
For Trinity, Kash Siefker scored the goal against the Jets off an assist from Micah Baumgartel. Brayden Stockelman posted eight saves.
The Cougars (1-11-1) tied Franklin County 3-3 in the third-place game. Sawyer Doggett netted two goals, and Baumgartel added one goal. Jacob Sabotin had two assists, and Stockelman recorded six saves.
Eagles tie Vikings
WEST TERRE HAUTE — Brown County led 2-1 at halftime, but West Vigo scored in the final 10 minutes to forge a 2-2 Western Indiana Conference tie.
Caleb Yager and Sam Normile scored goals for the Eagles (5-6-1, 3-3-1), who outshot the Vikings 17-15. Wyatt Fox posted nine saves.

North girls victorious
SHELBYVILLE — The fifth-ranked Columbus North girls varsity runners rested, but their JV came through with a win in Shelbyville’s Golden Bear Invitational.
The Bull Dogs and New Palestine each scored 46 points. North won by virtue of a faster sixth runner, Claire Wisler, who finished 19th in 21 minutes, 56.97 seconds for 5,000 meters (3.1 miles).
Julie Klaus led the Bull Dogs with a sixth-place finish in 20:29.06. Abby Jacobi took eighth in 20:40.78, while Katherine Rumsey was ninth (20:48.81), Kennedy Kerber 10th (20:48.81) and Alyssa Green 14th (21:13.56).
North boys take third
FORT WAYNE — Columbus North’s sixth-ranked boys finished third in the New Haven Invitational. No. 3 Homestead won with 62 points to 68 for No. 8 Bloomington South and 72 for the Bull Dogs.
Reese Kilbarger-Stumpff and Matt Newell finished sixth and seventh in 16:02.2 and 16:06.1 to lead North. Andy Stohr took 17th in 16:24.4, while Evan Carr was 20th (16:36.2) and Austin Pulkowski 36th (16:51.6).
Jet boys triumphant
HOPE — Hauser’s boys scored 20 points to win their Heritage Days Classic. Indy Genesis finished second with 65.
Ryan Ault won the boys race in 18:14 to lead the Jets. Noah Estes finished second in 18:14, while Alex Bower took fourth in 19:47 and Tanner Ault and Cameron Toole were sixth and seventh in 20:22 and 20:32.
Edinburgh finished fifth with 105 points. Parker Young took 18th in 25:08, while Landen Burton was 19th (25:10), Bryce Abbett 20th (25:11), Bryce Jett 28th (34:11) and Devyn Milburn 29th (34:16).
Indy Genesis was the only school with a full girls team and scored 15 points. Hauser and Edinburgh each had four runners, one short of the number needed to score as a team.
Kaitlyn Everroad led the Jets with a fifth-place finish in 27:42. Addison Jones took eighth in 28:35, while Tammy Essex was 12th (30:03) and Lexi Tallent 18th (33:14).
Hannah Pike and Ciera Myers finished 10th and 11th, both in 29:42, to lead the Lancers. Alyssa Funkhouser took 14th in 31:03, and Cloee Britton was 17th in 31:43.
East girls finish fifth
BEDFORD — Columbus East’s girls finished fifth and boys 11th in Bedford North Lawrence’s Ted Fox Memorial Invitational. Floyd Central won the girls meet with 42 points and the boys meet with 44 points.
The Olympian girls finished with 123 points. Olivia Linnemann took 14th in 21:10.14, while Laurel Knight was 17th (21:23.73), Chloe Krueger 19th (21:31.92), Elizabeth Stevens 35th (22:36.85) and Jordan Spurgeon 43rd (23:14.97).
The East boys scored 321 points. Nick Walter finished 22nd in 17:28.41, while Tyler Hertle was 66th (19:18.85), Kaleb Walters 72nd (19:29.99), Matthew Novreske 79th (19:55.44) and Ryan Sadtler 85th (20:06.87.
Jennings boys win
HANOVER — Jennings County’s 19th-ranked boys won the 11-team Madison Invitational with 25 points. New Albany finished second with 54.
Carter Leak won the race in 16:46 to lead the Panthers. Lane Elsner finished second in 17:02, while Gavin Hendrix was fourth (17:21), Drew Stroud eighth (17:47) and AJ Siener 10th (17:50).
The Jennings girls finished second with 59 points, trailing Charlestown’s 37. Emma Morrison won the race in 20:50.9, while Heather Sea was fifth (22:06.4), Elizabeth Wahlman ninth (22:36.5), Halle Franks 18th (24:06.9) and Emily Waldo 26th (25:52.0).
Eagle girls take second
CULVER — Brown County’s girls were at full strength for the first time this season and finished a close second in the Closed Division of the Culver Academies Invitational. Rochester edged the Eagles 120-122.
Hadley Gradolf led Brown County with a seventh-place finish in 20:43.2. Abby Fleetwood and Emelia Koester took 22nd and 23rd in 22:04.2 and 22:07.6, while Anna Fleetwood was 35th (22:42.1) and Emma DeBord 39th (22:44.5).
The Eagle boys finished sixth in the Closed Division with 224 points. Hanover Central won with 81. Chase Austin led Brown County with a 12th-place finish in 18:04.5, while Rafe Silbaugh was 33rd (18:54.4), Waylon Patrick 50th (19:41.6), Cameron Fox 55th (19:54.5) and Rhett Silbaugh 95th (21:06.4).

Crusaders win SRC
DUGGER — Columbus Christian defended its Southern Roads Conference Tournament championship, beating Cannelton 25-18, 25-5 and Medora 25-6, 25-11 in pool play before downing Dugger Union 25-8, 26-28, 15-11 in the championship match.
Madison Henderson recorded a combined 24 kills, 18 digs and 17 aces in the three matches; while Lauren Hunnicutt notched 24 kills, two blocks and three aces and Hannah Stair had three kills, 63 assists, nine digs and 10 aces to lead the Crusaders (18-3).
Also for Columbus Christian, Ellie Ridder tallied 21 kills, nine digs and one ace; and Emily Stair added four kills, 17 digs and five aces. Kayla Jones had 24 digs and three aces, and Ann Marie Gandy pounded six kills and one block.
East finishes fourth
INDIANAPOLIS — Columbus East went 2-2 to finish fourth in the Cathedral Invitional. The Olympians beat Perry Meridan 25-22, 25-11, lost to Class 4A No. 1 New Castle 25-13, 25-12, beat Cathedral 25-11, 26-24 and lost to Avon 25-22, 25-22.
Rilee Jessee pounded 23 kills, Gabby Dean had 10 blocks, Cadence Gilley tallied 51 digs and Regann Jessee served five aces to lead the Olympians (10-7).
Also for East, Reece Whitehead recorded 13 kills, Regann Jessee added 11 kills and four blocks and Allison Mack had eight kills and 37 digs. Rilee Jessee notched 35 digs, Mady Foster contributed 20 digs, Kenzie Foster served three aces and Cadence Gilley added two aces.
North takes fifth
MUNCIE — Columbus North went 1-2 and finished fifth in the Muncie Central Invitational. The Bull Dogs fell to Mt. Vernon 27-25, 25-10 and Wapahani 25-15, 25-20 before knocking off perennial power Muncie Central 25-19, 19-25, 15-13.
Sarah Bennett led North (6-12) with five blocks and five aces. Emma Tynan pounded 15 kills, Reagan Kane recorded 49 assists and Sydney Cooper tallied 30 digs.
Also for the Bull Dogs, Kane notched 21 digs and four aces, and Cooper, Kate Whaley, Carley Finke and Madi Roop all served two aces. Bennett pounded 12 kills, Roop added eight kills, Madison white and Gabby Genth each had seven kills and Tynan and White each contributed three blocks.
Trinity wins invitational
SEYMOUR — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran beat Jennings County 25-7, 25-20; 2A No. 6 Triton Central 25-8, 25-15 and New Washington 25-8, 25-18 to capture its own invitational.
Hannah Sabotin led the Cougars (22-5) with 24 kills and five blocks and went over the 1,000-kill mark for her career. Kamzi Gross recorded 33 digs and eight aces, Paige Lawrence notched 33 assists and Kennedy Hoffman and Sydney Jaynes each had five blocks.
Also for Trinity, Hoffman pounded 19 kills, and Jaynes added 18 kills. Ruthie Bingham tallied 19 digs and four aces, Bailey Reynolds added 31 assists, Sabotin and Elly Carter each contributed 18 digs and Lawrence served three aces.
Jennings (9-16) bounced back from its loss to Trinity by beating Triton Central 25-23, 25-15.
Eagles win in five
NASHVILLE — Brown County rallied from a two-set deficit to pull out a 24-26, 23-25, 25-17, 25-22, 15-10 WIC win against Northview.
Chloe Lee pounded 13 kills, Abigail Hollander recorded 31 assists, Londyn Koester tallied 10 digs and Lauren Akles served four aces to lead the Eagles (9-7).
Also for Brown County, Milly Patrick and Mary Rygiel each notched nine kills. Whitney Clark added six digs, and Hollander served two aces.
Lancers go 2-2
GREENFIELD — Edinburgh went 2-2 in Greenfield-Central’s Cougar Challenge. The Lancers lost to Greenfield 25-13, 25-8 and beat Whiteland 25-18, 25-14 and Indianapolis Shortridge 25-16, 27-25 before falling to Batesville 25-11, 25-5.
Paige Burton recorded 15 assists, a block and seven aces; and Emily Chappelow notched 16 kills and 15 aces to lead the Lancers (6-17). Gracie Crawhorn tallied five digs, and Bethany Burton had one block.
Also for Edinburgh, Paige Burton pounded 12 kills, and Carly Cowan added three digs and six aces.

Olympians split games
GREENWOOD — Columbus East bounced back from a 7-1 loss to Class 3A No. 6 Center Grove Saturday morning by beating Terre Haute North 2-1 in the afternoon in the Center Grove Tournament.
Elena Stoughton and Jaeda Berkemeier scored goals for the Olympians (8-4-2) against the Patriots. Alana Dwenger and Abby Miller had assists. Both teams finished with seven shots, and Karisma Parker recorded six saves.
Against the Trojans, Dwenger scored off an assist from Jaeda Berkemeier. Center Grove outshot East 18-4. Parker posted nine saves, while Erin McIntyre added three saves and Anna Liimatta had one save.
Vikings blank Eagles
WEST TERRE HAUTE — Brown County went on the road and came away with a 2-0 WIC loss to West Vigo.
The Eagles fell to 1-11-1 overall and 1-6-1 in the WIC.

Jets split matches
HOPE — Hauser beat Morristown 5-0 in the semifinals before falling to Waldron 5-0 to finish second in the Hauser Heritage Day Classic.
Ethan Wallace at No. 1 singles, Keagan Miller at No. 2 singles, Sam Miller at No. 3 singles and Caleb Hoover and Levi Gollmer at No. 1 doubles all went 1-1 for the Jets (3-10). Eli Miller and Hagan Wiedersatz won at No. 2 doubles against Morristown, and Carson Rose and Dawson Paul fell to Waldron at No. 2 doubles.
Edinburgh lost to Waldron 5-0 and beat Morristown 5-0. Max Blandford at No. 1 singles, Brayden McManaway at No. 2 singles, Travis Jones at No. 3 singles, Parker Newman and Chase Littlejohn at No. 1 doubles and Preston Smith and Colton Reed at No. 2 doubles all went 1-1 for the Lancers (4-10).
Eagles win twice
NASHVILLE — Brown County pulled out a three-set win at No. 2 doubles to claim a 3-2 victory against Southwestern (Shelby), then blanked Corydon Central 5-0.
Aaron McCann at No. 1 singles and Josh Miller at No. 2 singles went 2-0, while Noah Cochran and Spencer Blee went 1-0 at No. 2 doubles and 1-0 at No. 1 doubles for the Eagles (19-2). Nolan Patterson won at No. 3 singles, and Aiden Burt and Reid Davis won at No. 2 doubles against Corydon.

Stogsdill shoots 86
MONTGOMERY — Brown County’s Allison Stogsdill carded an 86 in the Washington Regional at Country Oaks.
Stogsdill was playing as an individual after the Eagles finished fourth as a team in last week’s Bloomington North Sectional. A 79 was the fifth and final individual qualifying spot to state from the Washington Regional.
Curry cards a 91
INDIANAPOLIS — Jennings County’s Sophia Curry shot 91 in the Roncalli Regional at Smock Golf Course.
Curry was playing as an individual after the Panthers finished sixth in last week’s Madison Sectional. A 78 was the fifth and final individual qualifying spot to state from the Roncalli Regional.

Panthers down Spartans
CONNERSVILLE — Lance Bailey ran for two touchdowns and threw for one Friday to lead Jennings County to its second consecutive win, a 28-14 triumph at Connersville.
Bailey ran for first-half touchdowns of 6 and 20 yards and threw a 78-yard scoring pass to Jared Corya in the third quarter for the Panthers (3-3). Owen Miller ran 34 yards for the game-clinching touchdown in the fourth period.
Bailey carried 12 of 18 passes for 188 yards and carried 13 times for 70 yards. Corya caught three passes for 80 yards.
Jaydan Vanosdol was 4 of 4 on extra points. Tyler Wathen had 10 tackles and a fumble recovery, Peyton Hayden added nine tackles and an interception and Logan Forney had an interception to lead the defense.
Clovers edge Eagles
NASHVILLE — Brown County led most of the game Friday, but Cloverdale rallied for a 26-24 WIC victory.
“We didn’t play well enough to win,” Brown County coach Randy Minniear said. “We had a couple touchdowns called back on penalties. We didn’t deserve it. We just couldn’t get ourselves going.”
The Eagles fell to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the WIC.
Royals top Cougars
CHARLOTTESVILLE — Clayton McNealy carried 27 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns, but South Decatur fell 48-12 Friday at Eastern Hancock.
McNealy scored on runs of 16 and 1 yard for the Cougars (2-4). South Decatur’s defense had trouble keeping up with the Royals’ speed on offense.
“They’re by far the best team we’ve played, and we played some pretty good teams in North Decatur and Milan,” South Decatur coach Rick Zimmerman said. “They were the fastest team we’ve seen, and their quarterback is good. They’re really good.”
