Bennie K. Whipker, 89, of Elizabethtown, died at 4:30 p.m. September 29, 2019, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.

Bennie was born June 10, 1930, in Columbus, the son of Elmer Whipker Sr. and Goldie Beryl Talley Whipker. He married Coral Mae Booth November 23, 1958, and she preceded him in death October 5, 2010.

Bennie was a retired farmer. He had been a member of the Bartholomew County Planning and Zoning Board and the Volunteer Fire Department Advisory Board. He was also an active supporter of the area farmers’ markets.

The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Fred Darling officiating. Calling will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Interment will be at New Harmony Cemetery with military honors presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana in honor of Bennie.

Survivors include his sons, Keith (Patty) Whipker of Elizabethtown and Brian (Linda) Whipker of Cary, North Carolina, and a daughter, Naomi (David) Creekmore of Elizabethtown; brothers, Harry Whipker, Elmer Whipker Jr. and Alan (Karen) Whipker, all of Columbus; sisters-in-law, Barbara Whipker of Hope and Mary Virginia Covington of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, J. Matt (Carla) Harden, Tyler Harden, Josh (Christine) Whipker, Kyle (Miranda) Whipker, Benjamin Whipker, Jeremy Whipker, Missy (Bo) Davidson, Heather (Luke) Hartsman and Kristy (Jeff) Fritsch; and 16 great- grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Coral Mae; and brothers, Herschel, Halford, Perry Don, Paul and David Whipker, and sisters, Elizabeth McKinney and Margaret Volland.
