Jorge Nieto, Columbus East senior soccer player
Nieto had a goal and an assist in both a 3-0 first-round win against Seymour and a 4-2 semifinal win against New Albany and scored a goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win against Floyd Central in the Floyd Central Sectional final.
His performance last week: “I think I showed up big-time, but that’s not just because of me. That’s a part of the team pushing me and me pushing them to win the game, and then the momentum and motivation rubs off on the team.”

Do you do anything special to prepare? “I just put my headphones in and play my music. I usually just rest up and start kicking the ball around. Then about 20 minutes before we start warming up, I start passing the ball around.”

Favorite sports team: “Indiana men’s soccer and Paris Saint-Germain”
Favorite athlete: “Luka Modric”
Role model: “My dad and my brother (both named Ramiro Nieto).”
Best advice: “Don’t stop doing anything if someone tells you you can’t do it or brings you down. Just keep doing your own thing, and eventually, you’ll achieve whatever you want to achieve.”
Athletics goal: “I want to beat the (school) assist record for the season.”
If you could travel anywhere: “Probably Paris, just to see the culture and the differences and how they act there, and then to play soccer there.”
FEMALE
Rilee Jessee, Columbus East senior volleyball player
Jessee led the Olympians with 16 kills and 18 digs in a win against Madison, had 14 kills and 12 digs in a loss to Roncalli and tallied 33 kills, two blocks, 37 digs and seven aces in leading East to a 4-0 record in Saturday’s East Invitational.
Her performance last week: “Our team definitely peaked this weekend. We won the East Invitational, which East has never done that, so that was really good.”
Do you do anything special to prepare? “I mostly just listen to music and be with my team.”

Favorite food: “Pasta”
Favorite class: “Anatomy”
Favorite sports team: “Miami (Ohio)”
Favorite athlete: “Ellyn (Jones) McIntosh.”

Best advice: “Be confident in yourself.”
Athletics goal: “To start my freshman year or play my freshman year at Felician.”
If you could travel anywhere: “I would go to The Bahamas because I went there before, and it was awesome, so I’d go there again.”
