Trinity wins sectional

SEYMOUR — Class A No. 1 Trinity Lutheran won its sixth consecutive sectional title Saturday with a 25-5, 25-14, 25-13 victory against Rising Sun.

Hannah Sabotin led the Cougars with 14 kills and five blocks. Kennedy Hoffman had nine kills and two blocks, and Sydney Jaynes finished with eight kills and two blocks. Elly Carter served three aces, Bailey Reynolds racked up 34 assists and Kamzi Gross tallied 12 digs.

The Cougars advanced to the final with a 25-3, 25-4, 25-3 rout of Medora in Saturday morning’s semifinals.

Trinity (27-5) will play Loogootee at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals of the Loogootee Regional. The winner will play Springs Valley or Rock Creek Academy for the regional title at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Eagles down Tiger Cubs

NASHVILLE — Brown County finished 10th in the Western Indiana Conference after beating Greencastle 37-27 Friday in the WIC crossover game.

Noah Carter threw for 135 yards and three touchdowns for the Eagles (4-5). He connected with Javon Oliphant for 61 yards and Kody Walsh for 9- and 2-yard scores.

Kaleb Popp carried six times for 77 yards and had a sack on defense. Waunblee Roux recorded eight tackles.

Cougars edge Eagles

CAMBRIDGE CITY — Clayton McNealy scored on an 8-yard run with 3 1/2 minutes remaining to lift South Decatur to a 29-28 win at Cambridge City Lincoln in the regular-season finale.

The Cougars (4-5) led 15-0 before the Golden Eagles scored 20 consecutive points to take the lead. South Decatur regained the advantage at 23-20 to start the fourth quarter, but fell behind 28-23 before driving for the game-winning score.

McNealy, who finished with 147 yards rushing, also ran 25 yards for a touchdown and caught a 2-point conversion from Wyatt Gatewood. Gatewood ran 8 yards for a score and threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Zach Luttel.

Bulldogs top Panthers

NEW ALBANY — New Albany jumped out to a 21-0 lead and went on to hand Jennings County a 42-20 Hoosier Hills Conference loss in Friday’s regular-season finale.

Peyton Hayden ran 2 yards for a touchdown to cut the halftime deficit to 21-7. Lance Bailey threw a 29-yard scoring pass to Jared Corya in the third quarter, and Bailey ran 7 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Hayden led the defense for the Panthers (3-6, 1-5) with six tackles.
