BCSC awards bids for LED lighting project

Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. will move forward with plans to install LED lights across its 21 buildings after the district awarded a nearly $1 million contract to Energy Systems Group, LLC on Monday.

The school board unanimously approved the Newburgh, Indiana-based group’s $869,000 bid with two alternates of $53,879 and $53,868, amounting to a total cost of $976,747. This contract covers the cost of LED lighting at Columbus East High School, Columbus North High School, Northside Middle School, Central Middle School and Southside Elementary School.

The bid amount is within the established project budget, which is funded by the 2019 General Obligation Energy Management Bond in the amount of $4.85 million approved in June.

Earlier this year, Boezeman said adding LED light bulbs to the district’s 21 buildings would cost the corporation $1.7 million but would yield a $325,000 reduction in the corporation’s annual energy costs. The remainder of the bond is being used for facility improvements and the addition of solar panels at two BCSC schools.
