IUPUC honored Gregg Summerville with the 2019 James G. Simms Leadership Award during its annual Circle of Leadership Celebration.
The award — established in honor of the late James G. Simms for his vision, perseverance, and dedication in founding the IUPUC campus in the 1970s — recognizes inspiring individuals who have generously given their time, talent, and treasure to advance IUPUC’s mission.
The award was presented Thursday night at Fairfield Inn and Suites in Columbus.
An Indiana native, Summerville earned a bachelor of arts in zoology and animal biology from Indiana University in 1969, and an master’s in finance, also from IU, in 1972. He started his financial career with Mellon Bank, and has been president of Tecumseh Capital Partners LLC since 2006.
Summerville has been involved with IUPUC as a member of the board of advisers since 2011, chairing the board in 2017-2018.
Since 2014, he has served as a Bicentennial Campaign co-chair. Summerville works closely with the IUPUC Office of Development and External Affairs in planning strategy, making personal contacts, and soliciting gifts to benefit IUPUC. In addition to the countless volunteer hours he devotes to the Columbus campus, Summerville is also a member of the IU Foundation Board of Directors.
Based on their belief in the IUPUC mission, Summerville and his wife, Judy, have engaged in outreach across the greater Columbus community on behalf of the advancement of IUPUC.
Summerville freely shares his experiences and expertise to help others understand the ways in which planned giving and charitable gift annuities benefit the campus, and have greater impact over time providing support for current and future generations of IUPUC students.
“It has been my honor know and work with Gregg since coming to IUPUC,” said Vice Chancellor and Dean, Dr. Reinhold Hill. “He is truly committed to the success of our campus and the Columbus community. I can”t think of a more deserving person for this year’s award.”
