Principals swap schools for a day

Two local elementary school principals traded spots for a day last week.

Brett Findley, principal at Columbus Signature Academy – Lincoln Elementary, and Michael Parsons, principal at Clifty Creek Elementary, announced in a Facebook video Tuesday that the two would trade schools for one day to learn about each other’s school environments and culture.

"We thought, we learn from each other all the time," Parsons said. "We’re sharing information, strategies, ideas, how to sharpen each other and how to better each other. The thought came across, why don’t we see what goes on in each other’s buildings? Get in each other’s rooms, see their kids, their instructional practices and the culture of their building to try and grow our building."

Early Wednesday morning, Parsons reported for duty at CSA – Lincoln and Findley arrived on time at Clifty Creek, both ready for whatever the day would bring them.

Findley said as local school leaders, they’re always looking for ways to improve and push each other to be the best they can be.

Both principals touted the success of their students and how hardworking their faculty and staff are.

"Well I think we’re both project-based learning schools," Findley said. "One of the big things we really pride ourselves on are our kids and our families and our teachers. There is a close knit community here, and that is helpful being a smaller group, a smaller school, but relationships are everything."

In the Facebook video, Findley and Parsons poked fun at one another, encouraging each other to check out the fountain in the basement of CSA – Lincoln and the portable rooftop observatory at Clifty Creek — neither of which really exist.

The principals said they will share highlights from their experience in another video. To view the full video and stay updated, like CSA Lincoln Community and Clifty Creek Elementary School on Facebook.
