A small twin engine plane flying from Grand Rapids, Michigan, to northern Kentucky suffered a ruptured oil line while over Columbus, forcing an emergency landing at Columbus Municipal Airport.

Columbus Mayor Eret Kline expressed hope Bakalar Air Force Base would be spared a second time from closing, but he and other city officials began considering proposals already drawn up to convert the 2,050-acre airfield into facilities such as a park, a junior college, vocational school or industrial park that would be advantageous to the city and surrounding area.
