Doreen E. Hardy, 91, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, October 26, 2019 at her home.
Mrs. Hardy was born September 14, 1928, in Liverpool, England, to the late Stanley and Margaret Mills Hinds.
Mrs. Hardy was baptized in the Church of England in Liverpool.
She met her husband to be, PFC Oakel A. Hardy U.S. Army, during World War II at a dance for soldiers held at a community center in Aintree, England. Oakel A. and Doreen were married on September 8, 1945 at Emmanuel Higher Lane Parish, Church of England by Rev. E.W. Hawthorne. They were married for 55 years until Oakel A. passed away in February 2000.
Mrs. Hardy came to the United States as a war bride after the end of the war and joined her husband in Columbus after Oakel A. was discharged from the Army at Camp Atterbury.
Mrs. Hardy was a humble and deeply religious woman who loved her Redeemer, Jesus Christ our Lord. She worked tirelessly in her service to God and her church. She was ordained as a Eucharistic Minister in the Episcopal Church in 2002 and served in the New Covenant Episcopal Church in Winter Springs, Florida.
Mrs. Hardy is survived by her sons, Oakel Jr. (Christine) Hardy of Columbus, David (Patty) Hardy of Cross Hill, South Carolina and Michael Hardy of Columbus; grandchildren, Tron (Sheila) Hardy, Amanda (Jason) Lewis, Douglas Smith, Cindy (Don) Foreman, Jill Merrell, Jeremy Hardy, Wendy (Jes) Hardy, Shelly Brosemer, Jerad Hardy, Tabitha Hardy and Dustin Hardy; several great-grandchildren; and siblings, Pearl M. Wright of Comrie Scotland, Jeanne M. Hinds of Liverpool, England, Joan Trilling of Columbus, David Hinds of Liverpool, England and Brenda J. Palin of Liverpool, England.
Mrs. Hardy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Deborah Ward; and siblings, E. Stanley Hinds and Annette Hinds.
The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, November 2, 2019 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kathryn Thomas officiating.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Cremation will take place following the funeral service. Interment will be at the New Covenant Episcopal Church Memorial Garden in Winter Springs, Florida.
