Columbus received an Economic Development Initiative Grant of $328,300 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for environmental remediation of a downtown site on which the city would build a parking lot for a proposed indoor sports complex.

1994

Many Bartholomew County residents whose land was targeted in a county-wide landfill site search complained they had no idea their property was being considered until the announcement was made at a public meeting.

Columbus Mayor Eret Kline announced that city council and board of works members decided unanimously to set up a city body to proceed “in an orderly acquisition” of Bakalar Air Force base land and facilities.
