Mother Nature is putting the trick back into trick or treat this afternoon and tonight.
A shock to the system is in store to end October and begin November across central Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind gusts of 35 mph to 40 mph along with falling temperatures and some potential for rain changing to snow will make for a wet, windy and cold Halloween afternoon and evening, said Shannan Hinton, Bartholomew County Emergency Management director.
Wind chills will drop down into the 20s by early tonight, according to weather forecasts. Lows late tonight and Friday morning are expected to fall into the middle 20s, producing a hard freeze across the area, Hinton said.
A check with Columbus City Hall confirmed that Columbus’ Halloween trick or treating hours from 5:30 to 8 p.m. today remain in place, according to the mayor’s office.
