Jack W. Stone, 91, of Greenwood, Indiana, formerly of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, October 16, 2019 at the Bickford of Greenwood Assisted Living.
Mr. Stone was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, October 23, 1927, to the late Richard F. and Marie Elizabeth Limecooly Stone. On October 17, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois.
Mr. Stone married JoAnn H. Burgwald; she preceded him in death February 11, 2007.
Mr. Stone was a United States Army veteran serving our country during the end of World War II. Mr. Stone received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University and later his master’s in engineering management from the University of Utah. A registered professional mechanical engineer, Mr. Stone was a technical salesman for Bailey Meter Company retiring after 30 years of service. He later became a toxic waste sales engineer at ChemWaste retiring after many years of service.
Mr. Stone was a member of First Lutheran Church in Columbus and the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Stone had many interests during his lifetime. His passions in life were fishing and hunting and his primary hobby was having hobbies; some of those included, dog training, boating, woodworking, candle making, furniture making, vegetable gardening, photography, raising birds in his basement, making ice fishing poles, etc., etc., etc.
If he could think of it, he could do it or make it. His outgoing personality and inherent kindness made him unforgettable for those with the luck to meet him.
Mr. Stone had a passion for remodeling his home or anything that needed updated. He was the general contractor for the home he built in Maple Valley, Washington which was featured in the Better Homes and Garden magazine.
Mr. Stone will be remembered by his children, Daniel (Laura) Stone of Geneva, Illinois and Linnette (Chester) Stoll of Newnan, Georgia; grandchildren, Krystal Bruce of Tacoma, Washington, Laura Lahnala of High Point, North Carolina, Daniel Stone of Geneva, Illinois and Sarah Stone of Geneva, Illinois; three great-grandchildren; sister, Marita (Carl) Grashof of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Marie Stone and his beloved wife, JoAnn Stone.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2019 at First Lutheran Church; Pastor Larry Isbell will officiate. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall.
Inurnment will take place at the Taft Pioneer Cemetery in Lincoln City, Oregon.
