Columbus police officers arrested a local woman on a drug possession charge after a traffic stop.
Officers spotted Haley J. Burton, 21, Columbus, driving a vehicle near Eighth Street and Hutchins Avenue at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Officers knew that Burton did not have a driver’s license and spoke with her when she stopped her vehicle a short time later, Harris said.
While speaking with Burton, a CPD K-9 arrived and later alerted to the odor of narcotics coming from Burton’s vehicle, Harris said. While searching Burton’s car, the officers reportedly located methamphetamine inside the vehicle’s center console.
Burton was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where she was held on preliminary charges of felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor operating a vehicle without every receiving a license, jail officials said.
