Annie Ruth Quillen, 81, passed away at home while sleeping on November 7, 2019.

Ruth was born in Spruce Pine, Alabama, March 7, 1938, the daughter of Annie Rogers Mathews and Robert Mathews, who preceded her in death. Loved by all who met her, Ruth always had a smile on her face, a meal to share and the ability to make all in her presence feel loved.

Ruth married Raymond Quillen, her best friend and love of her life, on January 6, 1956. Together they shared a love of gardening, playing cards and appreciated gatherings with dear friends. Nothing, however, was more important to Ruth than her family. During their 63 years together, they were blessed with 3 children. Raymond Douglas, who preceded Ruth in death, Roxana Quillen, of Columbus, and Myra (Jim) Kirchberg, of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband Raymond, her daughters, Roxana and Myra; her brother, Roy Mathews (Ellen) of Easley, South Carolina; and her sister, Rose Marie Todd of Sheffield, Alabama. She was adored by her grandchildren, Tanner, Braden and Danielle Kleinhenz, and Ellie, Ryan and Ethan Kirchberg, as well as her great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, her son and brothers, Robert, Rand, Edward, and Carl Mathews.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on November 26, 2019 at Garden City Church of Christ in Columbus. A calling will begin at 10 a.m., with service to follow at 11 a.m. The Quillen family’s long-time pastor and friend, Virgil Clotfelter will officiate, along with Brian Gilroy.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America, in honor of Ruth being reunited with her son. Contributions can me mailed to: PO BOX 98018, Washington DC. 20090.
