COLUMBUS

In the early hours of Nov 20th 2019, Claire Feucht Gregory, 83, proud resident of Columbus, IN departed onto her next adventure.

One of 5 children born to Anna and Johann Feucht on Feb 24, 1936 in Leiferdingen Germany, she was the one with the adventurers’ spirit. As a young girl, Claire fell in love with America and knew that it would one day become her home. She studied at the Swiss Hotel School in Lucerne and interned in The Netherlands before she had the opportunity to come to the US. At 19, with $10.00 in her pocket and 2 words of English, she made the 8 day crossing to NY and then on to Cincinnati where she was hosted by a family and went to UC to learn English.

Soon after she was working at The Maisonette where she eventually re-met her future husband James Gregory. Together they formed a great culinary team and in 1971 were invited to move to Columbus by the Miller family to be the chefs for Irwin Management Company, Cummins Engine Company and the Miller family.

Besides working and raising a family, she was a member of The Mudlarks Garden Club, Cub Scout leader, Soccer Coach in the newly formed Columbus Soccer Club, and Original Ethnic Expo organizer and participant and much more. Her adventurous spirit and tenacity propelled her to become a chef who would go on to travel the world cooking for diplomats, CEOs, and rockstars Claire touched the lives of so many. We will all miss her exuberant smile and zest for life~and telling us to weed the garden.

Claire is preceded in death by her parents and older sisters Anna and Elise who welcomed her home.

Claire is survived by her beloved children Johann Gregory of Sevierville, TN and daughter Bianca (Lance) Snider of Columbus, IN and grandchildren Clayton Woodley (Los Angeles) and Ace (Krystal Cleary) Woodley of New Orleans, brother Sigfried (Amalie) Feucht of Leiferdingen, Germany, sister Hildegard (August) Becker of Bern, Switzerland, nephew Helmut (Silvia) Schick and daughter Yvonne of Neuhausen, Switzerland.

The family wishes to extend gratitude to Our Hospice of South Central IN and the extraordinary service they provide.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Claire Gregory Culinary Scholarship Fund through the Heritage Fund or to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.

A Celebration of Life to honor Claire’s spirit that enriched so many lives will be in Spring 2020.
