A local man died in a head-on crash on State Road 46 West just after 8 p.m. Thursday.
Columbus police were sent to State Road 46 near Goeller Boulevard where they determined that a 2005 Chevy Tahoe, driven by Nathan F. Morrow, 34, of Bloomington was traveling west on State Road 46 and crossed the center curbed median and struck a 2008 Honda Civic driven by Richard D. Walters, 58, of Columbus head-on in the eastbound lanes of State Road 46, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.
Walters was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Morrow was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital then transferred to IU Health Methodist Hospital for treatment of a head injury, police said.
Columbus Police Department accident reconstructionists are continuing an investigation into the accident.
Assisting at the scene were the Columbus Fire Department, Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police and Columbus Regional Hospital EMS.
