A Bartholomew County sheriff deputy helped the Columbus police locate a suspect in a domestic battery who was also arrested on drug-related charges during the traffic stop.
On Friday, Columbus police were looking for a suspect in a domestic battery in the 700 block of McClure Road, deputies said.
A description of the suspect vehicle was aired and the suspect was thought to be traveling south on East State Road 7, deputies said.
At approximately 12:29 a.m., Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Deputy Grant Carlson located the vehicle in the area of South County Road 525E and East State Road 7. The driver was traveling well under the speed limit and crossed left over the center line multiple times, deputies said.
After initiating a traffic stop, deputies could smell a very strong odor of alcohol. The driver, Emanuel Martinez, 36, Mission, Texas, registered .182 on a breath test at the scene and was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital, deputies said.
Deputy Nate Nichols later located cocaine and marijuana inside Martinez’s vehicle. Martinez was taken to the Bartholomew County Jail on preliminary charges of domestic battery in the presence of a minor, battery interfering with the report of a crime, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Martinez was being held in the jail in lieu of $31,000 bond.
