Comic Mike Armstrong, shown here with wife Pétra, a longtime favorite of Columbus audiences, says he’s happy to return to Columbus for shows at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesday at YES Cinema, 328 Jackson St. downtown. Last year, he performed on New Year’s Eve in Florida, and though he loved the audience, he said it just wasn’t the same as our fair city, where he has formed friendships over the years with the folks at YES and their work for the struggling via Lincoln-Central Neighborhood Family Center. Tickets are $20 and $25. Information: 812-379-1630 or yescinema.org

Brown County’s own Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band finally gets the big, um, darned local gig the act deserves: 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Brown County Music Center, 200 Maple Leaf Boulevard in Nashville. The three-piece American country blues band celebrated more than a few venue sellouts this calendar year — and Peyton recently graced the cover of Antique Guitar magazine. Tickets: $16 to $35 at browncounty.com/bcmc/

The Columbus/Bartholomew County Area NAACP Branch has again organized its annual Kwanzaa celebration pitch-in meal from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday in the Red Room of the Bartholomew County Public Library, 536 Fifth St. in downtown Columbus. Coordinators simply ask attendees to bring a dish to share. Observed from today through Jan. 1, Kwanzaa is a Swahili word that means “first” and signifies the first fruits of the harvest. It is also a celebration of family, community and culture, and honors African heritage, according to the event’s Facebook page. Information: Facebook page for Kwanzaa Celebration.
