We have heard quite a bit about global warming in 2019 and expect to hear more in 2020. Has the earth been warming lately? I think we can all agree that yes, the earth has been warming since 1980. Prior to that, the earth was cooling from 1940 to 1980, causing fears among some scientists and the media that an ice age apocalypse was just around the corner. And before 1940, the earth was warming from 1900 to 1940, culminating with the worst heat and drought ever in the United States, known as the Dust Bowl.

So, what will happen in the future? There are two dominant theories that see a vastly different future for climate in the world.

The first theory is that of anthropomorphic carbon dioxide (CO2), which simply states that humans are emitting too much CO2 by burning fossil fuels, and that increasing CO2 is the cause of an ever-warming planet. Politicians, governments, schools and journalists in the western world have thrown their weight behind this theory.

The second theory is that the sun controls warming and cooling through periodic and observable changes to its magnetic field and the amount of energy it sends to the earth. Much new information about the sun has been learned in the past decade. Independent scientists worldwide as well as governments in the eastern world support this theory.

Which theory seems to best fit past and current climate observations and will best predict future climate?

I challenge you to answer these questions for yourself by doing your own research. A great place to start is by watching the following movies: "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore in 2006 or its follow-up, "An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power" released in 2017. Both of these films are available at the Bartholomew County Library on DVD, or on YouTube. Once you view one or both of those films, watch "Climate Forcing: The Future is Cold" by Ben Davidson of Suspicious Observers, released in 2019 and available for free on YouTube.

If your appetite is whetted for more research, check out the following websites: climaterealityproject.org, and electroverse.net. Additional information about climate history may be found by watching almost any video posted on YouTube by Tony Heller.

Which theory best fits current reality? Be informed first, and then decide.
