North wins invitational
CONNERSVILLE — Columbus North defended its Connersville Invitational title on Saturday, scoring a 109.3 to 107.725 for runner-up Richmond.
The Bull Dogs’ Emily Moore won the bars with a 9.725 and finished second on the vault (9.425) and floor (9.675) and seventh on the beam (8.45) on her way to a second-place all-around finish with a 37.275. Sami Heathcote placed third on the vault (9.4) and bars (9.45), sixth on the beam (8.5) and eighth on the floor (9.075) in taking fourth in the all-around with a 36.425.
North’s Alayne Davis tied for fourth on the floor (9.35) and placed sixth on the vault (8.85) en route to a seventh-place all-around finish with a 34.925. Madi Edwards finished fourth on the bars (9.15), while Lindsey Mullis was seventh on the bars (8.875).
The Bull Dogs scored 27.675 on the vault, 28.325 on the bars, 25.2 on the beam and 28.1 on the floor.
GIRLS BASKETball
Columbus Christian wins
KNIGHTSTOWN — Columbus Christian trailed 17-14 aftre one quarter, but rallied for a 58-52 win against Granger Christian at Knightstown’s Hoosier Gym.
Emma Patterson scored 19 points and Kayla Jones had a triple-double with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals to lead the Crusaders (20-4). Madison Henderson added nine points.
Lions oust Cougars
CAMPBELLSBURG — Class A No. 4 Trinity Lutheran saw its season come to an end with a 61-43 loss to Class A No. 1 Loogootee in the semifinals of the West Washington Regional.
Sydney Jaynes led the Cougars (24-4) with 14 points. Bailey Tabeling scored 13, and Hannah Sabotin added 10.
Loogootee went on to beat Tecumseh 53-47 for the regional title.
BOYS BASKETball
Crusaders split pair
Columbus Christian split a pair of close games, beating Granger Christian 60-57 in the afternoon at Knightstown’s Hoosier Gym and falling at Union (Modoc) 66-63 in the evening.
C.J. Reed led the Cruaders (11-23) with 20 points against Granger Christian and with 25 against Union. Gabe Ridder added 13 against Granger Christian, and Jacob Conrad had 10 against Union.
South Decatur falls
HANOVER — South Decatur endured only its second loss of the season, an 81-69 setback at Southwestern (Hanover).
Dominic Walters led the Cougars (19-2) with 19 points. Hunter Johnson scored 17, while Evan Wullenweber added 13 and Lane Lauderbaugh had 12.
Devils top Panthers
NORTH VERNON — Jeffersonville jumped out to a 38-20 halftime lead and went on to hand Jennings County a 72-46 Hoosier Hills Conference defeat.
Carson McNulty led the Panthers (11-9, 2-5) with 14 points. Keegan Manowitz added 11 points and five assists.
