Lawrence “Larry” J. Riss, 73, of Columbus, passed away Sunday February 16, 2020 at his home.

Larry was born September 13, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Harold and Sylvia Binsfeld Riss.

On July 19, 1969, he married Susan Rebone.

Mr. Riss worked in the Information Technology department at the I.U. School of Education. He was a member of the Columbus Region of the Model A Restorers Club where he participated with a 1930 Model A Ford Tudor. He was also a member of the Bartholomew County R.C. Flyers Club and enjoyed building these planes by hand. Larry was honorably discharged from the United States Army in August 1, 1975. He will be remembered for his contagious laugh. “Wine, whisky and laughter.” Larry was also known as Mr. “Fix it” and could repair almost anything.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Susan; daughters, Pam (Greg) Schmelz of Columbus, Dr. Laura Riss of Duluth, Georgia, Karen (Sreedhar) Lakamsani of Bargersville; grandchildren, Michael Schmelz, Katherine Schmelz, Sylvia Lakamsani; brothers, Tom (Melissa) Riss of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Gerry (Pam) Riss of Simi Valley, California; nieces, Jill (Sam) Sullivan, Veronica Riss, Erin Riss; nephews, Eric Riss and Brian (Alexandra) Riss.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church with Father Steve Banet presiding. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Jonathan Moore Pike.

Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.
