GREENSBURG — Class 2A No. 6 South Decatur captured its first sectional title since 2008 with an 82-65 win against North Decatur Saturday in the North Decatur Sectional final.
The Cougars (23-2) jumped out to a 25-11 lead after one quarter and led 39-20 at halftime. South Decatur had won two close games against the Chargers (13-11) during the regular season.
"I just think we came to play," South Decatur coach Kendall Wildey said. "We had something that we wanted to prove. We made shots early, and it got us off to a good start."
Lane Lauderbaugh scored 28 points to lead four Cougars in double figures. Hunter Johnson scored 18, while Tyler Sporleder added 17 and Dominic Walters had 14.
South Decatur advances to play Covenant Christian at 10 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals of the Greenfield-Central Regional.
