The Columbus Fire Department received a 15-gallon donation of hand sanitizer from Huber’s Starlight Distillery Sunday to aid first responders during the COVID -19 pandemic. The Starlight Distillery recently began producing the alcohol-based hand sanitizer for first responders amid a national shortage.
According to the Starlight Distillery, the company followed a recipe provided by the World Health Organization, to assist health care workers and first responders. Starlight Distillery is also offering, free, up to 12 ounces of the hand sanitizer to customers who bring their own container. The Starlight Distillery plans to continue the production of hand sanitizer as long as production supplies are available. The distillery is located in Starlight, Indiana, south of Columbus off of I-65 at Exit 7.
Columbus Fire Chief Andy Lay expressed his gratitude for the generosity of Starlight Distillery.
“At a time when local supplies of hand sanitizer are hard to come by, this generous donation will aid our firefighters significantly as we take all available precautions to protect our essential emergency responders,” he said.
