Suspect arrested after short standoff

Columbus police officers arrested a Chicago man on several charges after a short standoff on Monday afternoon.

Shortly after 5 p.m., CPD officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Central Avenue in regards to a man inside the home with a firearm holding the occupants, including small children, inside against their will, said Lt. Matt Harris, Columbus Police Department spokesman.

Officers attempted to make contact with the occupants inside the residence but were unsuccessful. After several minutes, preparations were being made to activate the CPD SWAT Team when Daquan Barfield, 25, exited the home and was taken into custody without incident, Harris said.

Officers entered the house and a short time later located four young children inside the home.

Barfield was placed under arrest and transported to the Bartholomew County Jail where he was was being held on preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, pointing a firearm, strangulation, and domestic battery.
