Bartholomew Consolidated School Corp. knows this year’s Class of 2020 had a far different idea in mind when it came to this year’s commencement.

So BCSC Superintendent Jim Roberts said in a statement that Monday’s announcement that BCSC’s three high schools will conduct a virtual ceremony rather than a regular one later in the year that he understood that it would be “disappointing, and may lead some to be angry with us.”

“I apologize to our seniors and their families for how this school year is ending,” Roberts said in the statement. “… Our high school leaders and people we have tasked with delivering on this option will do whatever it takes to create an experience that is special and memorable for our 800 seniors.”

BCSC officials are juggling a number of issues as the school corporation entered its fifth week of eLearning on Monday, including the remainder of the school year scheduled to end May 21, summer programming questions and even possible changes as to how the school corporation will begin next school year, Roberts said in the statement.
